Default Costco and the PS3

Ok, does anyone here know if Costco's original unlimited return policy covers the PS3 or does the PS3 fall under their "computer" category for the 90 day warranty???

I ask this cuz with the issues of the blu drives crapping out coming to a head I would rather buy from Costco and get an unlimited return policy if it does crap out on me for some horrible reason. (and I don't intend to abuse it but rather cover my ass).

I work there. video game systems do not fall under the new 90 day electronics return policy. I've returned my ps3 twice (on my third).

The BD drive crapped out both times. I know the PS3 has a good failure rate, I must just be unlucky I guess. Luckily costco saved my ass both times!!!

that's actually why I wanted to get mine at Costco. I've been hearing about some people with drive failure and didn't want a $399 or $499 paper weight.

Were they both the 40 gigs or were they other models ??

They were actually. I originally had a 60 gig but I returned it to get about 200 bucks back when they got the 40 gig bundle. then they both crapped out. so I guess technically i'm on my fourth but the first one never failed on me i just got some cash back.

Hopefully you didnt get special treatment due to the fact you work there. I thought they cut the unlimited returns out. There was another thread about it

I'll know when I get a reply back from costco. But I'm hopeful because their return policy is as below

Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund. Exceptions: Televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPOD / MP3 players and cellular phones must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund.

How to Return: For an immediate refund (including shipping and handling), simply return your purchase at any one of our Costco warehouses worldwide. If you are unable to return your order at one of our warehouses, please email customer service or call our customer service center at 1-800-955-2292 for assistance. hmmmm, the more I read the more I believe the only way I'm getting one is if Costco's return policy is unlimited for the consoles. All over the net the failure rate on drives is coming in . Not a good thing at all

This is the first I've heard of any BD drive failures in PS3 also and I have a pretty good network of reliable sites I visit.

I don't know anyone who has had any real issues with their PS3 (and I know A LOT of people with one) except for one guy who got his on release day and the hdmi port on the back was 'loose' and didn't work properly. Though, I suspect he actually 'smooshed' the cable into it when he set the box down and damaged it himself given the nature of the problem.

I really don't think you need to worry too much about the PS3. Seriously... it's not an Xbox 360.

I worked for Costco for 4 years in college and one of my best friends still works there. If they give you trouble, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Good luck and don't sweat this...we'll take care of it brother.

I've had my 60 gb since day one and it is trucking along perfectly. Are these drive failures seen more in the 40gb drives; cause I have not heard of any troubles with the 60 gb.

My boss had his 80GB drive fail on him, and Sony replaced it free.
But it is strange to hear about it happening more and more and yet I never had any trouble with mine.

Yeah, it sounds mostly like the 40 and 80 gig models. Once they switched over from the 20 and 60 gig models it sounds like that's when the trouble started appearing, and now you can't buy a 60 or 20 gig retail

Thanks for posting this, I was wondering this exact same thing. I don't plan on abusing the policy either but I really want the peace of mind that if it crap out within the first 1-2 years I am definitely covered.

Yea, ive never heard of this, but you also get a 1 yr manufacturers Warranty which would cover a drive failure...

yeah, the 1 year warranty is pretty decent, but I'd rather do an instant swap at Costco.
