Hi- I'm trying to find a good Blu-ray drive and 24 in. monitor for my computer. Does anybody have any suggestions? Price range for drive around $200 and for a monitor $500. Note: I don't want a TFT Screen I prefer a shiny screen ( just like a plasma screen)
This is what I'm using: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+ (in the mits of overclocking) MSI K8N Neo4 939 socket mobo. 2GB of OCZ PC3200 NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 256mb (HDCP READY) 1 x 500GB SATA internal harddrive and 1 x 500GB external harddrive Window XP PRO Thank You All My Fellow Blu-ray Brothers and Sisters Last edited by Mensrea69; 05-07-2008 at 01:03 AM. |

Assuming you just want a Blu-ray reader, check out the Lite-on:
faster than the Sony, and much cheaper ($130). If you want Blu-ray burner, you would need to plan on spending $300+ depending on model. For the monitor, I personally HATE TN+Film displays, which is what most all laptops use and the vast majority of desktop consumer displays use. They have poor color rendition and terrible color shift as if you look at the monitor from any kind of an angle. Unfortunately, the much better MVA, PVA, or S-IPS monitors tend to cost far more. There are a few that are good and (sort of) within your range, though: HP LP2465 -- $539 after rebate Samsung 245T -- $659 w/ no rebate -- not really in your range, but a fantastic monitor -- you may be able to find last year's 244T for a deal Dell 2408WFP -- $679 w/ no rebate -- also not in your range, but you can find A LOT of deals on the 2407WFP Benq FP241W -- out of production but you can find some deals on these out there All these monitors are 24", have 1920x1200 resolution for full 1080p playback, are HDCP compliant and use either PVA or MVA display technology. |

You have a choice of PowerDVD 8 Ultra, WinDVD 9 Plus or Arcsoft Total Media Theatre to play the blu-ray's with.
The choice is yours but from my knowledge of them they all have their foibles - PowerDVD is a bit buggy but does DTS-Master, WinDVD is also buggy but upconverts DVD's very well and Total Media is iffy about graphics cards (but as i got it at release and found it didn't work with my ATI they may have fixed it now). As with anything in this world you pays your money you's take your risk! ![]() |
