I am very excited to hear about the new Blu-ray recorders. Can the Blu-ray recorders also record on DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+R, DVD+RW discs? Also, can the Blu-ray recorders work on video out with an analog TV? Thanks for your help.

![]() Hi Walter, Sony's first generation Blu-ray recorder, the BDZ-S77, can only record on to 23GB BDs, but it can play DVDs, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs and CD-DAs. Sony are planning to release their second generation 50GB machine this Summer, but even the BDZ-S77 has two composite outputs (by phono) as well as two s-video outputs and a D1/D3/D4 component output. Panasonic's new 50GB BD recorder, the DMR-E700BD, can also record on DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs. LG's combined Blu-ray recorder and 200GB hard-drive, the LGXBD420 (also known as the LGXBG420) was announced in January, and was due out this month, but LG have been very quiet about whether or not it includes a dual-layer 50GB BD drive - watch this space! :? Both Sony's and Philip's new three-laser optical heads are capable of supporting recording to all variants of CD and DVD if required, and as Sony's DVD recorders support both DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW formats it is likely that their next generation BD machine will at least read all these formats. |

The new Panasonic SW-5582 Blu-ray drive is an advanced computer Blu-ray burner that uses brand new Blu-ray writable (BD-R) and Blu-ray re-writeable (BD-RE) 25GB single layer and 50GB double layer Blu-ray discs for storage of data, computer backup, high-definition movies and more. With Panasonic Blu-ray drives you get backwards compatibility with all the most popular DVD media formats such as DVD RAM discs, Dual Layer DVD, Double Layer DVD, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-R/RW with CD-R/RW support too!

Based on what I found here on this forum, I just ordered that Panasonic burner.
Any idea where I can get media from to burn to? The web site showed media, but said it was not yet available. Also, any idea where I could get editiing equipment? I need my video guys to be able to put some high quality commercial video and audio together, and there doesn't seem to be any professional equipment on the market, yet, for Blu Ray. Thanks in advance for your help. |
