I am trying to set up my Blu-ray player and Onkyo 705 receiver. I have it connected with HDMI 1.3 and output the same to the tv. I have all the settings in the Blu-Ray set to Bitstream so the receiver can decode them. I have the Blu-Ray Black Hawk Down and it has the following audio options: English 5.1 and English PCM 5.1 (Uncompressed). If I choose English 5.1 the DD light shows on my receiver. If I choose Uncompressed the receiver shows PCM Multich and below that DVD Multich. Is this what should be showing? I guess I thought it would somehow decode the uncompressed audio and shoe a DD (dolby digital) light or something like that on the receiver. I called Onkyo and they said I have everything correct and it was a Blu-Ray player issue. I called Panasonic and they said I had everything set correctly. Neither sounded very confident in what they were telling me. Can anyone help me with this?

Uncompressed PCM is not "decoded"...it will show up on the Receiver as PCM.
Dolby True HD and Dts-HD Master are the compressed versions of Uncompressed PCM...basically when the Receiver decodes them, they are converted into PCM. But because they are decoded in the Receiver end, it will display on the Receiver as "Dolby TrueHD" and "Dts-HD Master" respectively. I know its kinda confusing...but ultimately you are connected the right way, everything is working as it should. Play a movie using a Dolby TrueHD or Dts-HD MA track, see what the Receiver displays then? ![]() Last edited by crackinhedz; 05-12-2008 at 01:13 AM. |

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll pick up a movie with Dolby TrueHD or DTS- HD MA this week and try it out. Thanks again!
