Default Exchange program for defective Geneon discs (T2 SE/Premium, Aeon Flux, Sin City)

http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/20081210/geneon.htm (use Google Translate, etc.)

People were reporting freeze-ups on Geneon's latest discs (happened to my copy of T2 Premium Edition as well), so they implemented an exchange program only a few days after release. While they should have done better testing in the first place, at least they quickly implemented the exchange program.

The exchange program might only good for people living in Japan (or the people who answer the phone number listed probably won't speak English), but if you have one of these discs, the retailer where you purchased it will probably replace it for you. If you got it from Amazon.co.jp, they might not even make you send back the defective disc.

Try contacting them, I'd say it's pretty likely they will. You might have to send them the defective disc, but this shouldn't cost much if you send it in a padded envelope.

I sent playasia an email about it, but I haven't ordered yet. I was waiting for news of this to come around.

Will a U.S. version with the new transfers and TrueHD audio be released in the U.S.?

Can someone tell us in English what the recall notice says?

I translated it with babelfish, and it SEEMS to say what the actual defect with the discs is - something about temperature causing deformation - but the translation is just so poor that I can't really understand what they are saying.

There was a miscalibration in the machine where the polycarbonate cooled unevenly causing the glitching during playback. This effects Aeon Flux, the 2 Terminators and Sin City, which were presumably all run on the same machine

There's no mention of Japan only, but you'll have to call the offices to arrange an exchange which will probably be Japanese language only

If you want to give it a try, Japan is 14 hours ahead of eastern time right now, and when you call say "Eigo wakarimas ka?" (Ey(as in the letter a)-go wah-kah-ree-mahs kah, "Do you understand English?")

I HIGHLY suggest you contact your point of purchase first, you are unlikely to find anyone at a call center who will speak decent english, even if they are willing to send out international

Thanks Jeff, much appreciated.

Both Amazon.co.jp and HMV.co.jp don't show immediate stock, so I take it they have both been made aware of the situation? HMV says shipping in 2-3 days, so I guess they might be waiting for the fixed discs - think it's safe to order from them now?

No, you should contact them and specifically ask if stock has been replaced

2 months from now I'd say it's "safe" to order blind

There is no information of any kind on this. Logic dictates that, yes, it is likely that the US will eventually receive a new Blu-ray of Terminator 2 using this new superior transfer - possibly to tie in with the new Terminator movies coming out. But in terms of dates, details, official confirmation, etc. there is absolutely nothing.

Yes asia will replace faulty disks. it does say on the website if your disc is damaged or faulty then u can send it back and they will test it and then replace. But only issue is, they will replace from thier current stock and if is all faulty then u might need to ask them to wait till they got a new batch or get a refund but I dont know what they will say to that.

HMV.co.jp responded saying that the product has been recalled by the manufacturer, and they expect corrected replacement discs by the end of January.

YesAsia emailed back and said they will replace faulty discs if notified within 14 days of receipt of order. Anything outside that window is SOL.
