First off I'd like to say thanks for the WEALTH of information I've received from viewing the hundreds of posts regarding what I've had questions on.
Secondly I'd like to say up front I'm pretty new to this. ![]() This is what I purchased a couple weeks ago: Sony KDL-46XBR5 - 46" LCD TV Sony BDP-S300 - Blu-Ray disc player Onkyo HT SP904 - home theater system - 5.1 channel Link: http://www.nfm.com/DetailsPage.ASPX?...uctID=27556687 After I think I installed it all correctly, and discovering this forum, I realized I should have purchased the PS3 instead of the Sony BDP-S300, so I returned the BDP-300 and got the PS3. Anyways, after reading more about receivers I believe I should have purchased the following: Onkyo HT SP908 - home theater system - 7.1 channel Link: http://www.nfm.com/DetailsPage.aspx?...uctID=26788133 Or should I go this route? Onkyo HT S990THX - home theater system - 7.1 channel Link: http://www.nfm.com/DetailsPage.aspx?...uctID=25953985 I realize I should have purchased the receiver and all the speakers separately, but at the time my wife was having a fit about how much I was spending already. I did have the opportunity to watch several blurays on the Sony BDP-300 and from what I saw, I'm hooked on Bluray now! I have yet to try out the Bluray feature on the PS3 since all I've done is play games on it. I plan on having my PS3, and XBOX 360, and a Comcast HD Digital Cable Box connected to whichever receiver I'm using. All HDMI. Basically what I'm asking is what should I do for the least amount of money, but give me the best bang for my buck? And why? I didn't realize that the receiver and speaker system I purchased did not have pass-through audio? Is that something I need? Does it make that huge of a difference for a couple hundred bucks? I think my wife would kill me if I decided to upgrade further, but if I could convice her it would be worth it, and I bribed her, I could get away with it. Or should I keep what I have and not worry about boxing all that crap back up, returning it, and starting over? I'm sorry for all the questions, but I'd hate to find out I should have done something different for only a couple hundred more bucks. Thanks in advance. Your humble "noob" Chad |
