Default Powerdvd OEM won't play "Across The Universe" [or "3:10 To Yuma"]. Patch?

Powerdvd won't play "Across The Universe"

I have OEM version:
7.03.3514

Has anybody with the OEM version of powerdvd been given access by cyberlink to a patch that has improved their powerdvd to a version higher than mine?
Such a patch would have at least allowed you to play the movie "3:10 to Yuma".

[NOTE: For those of you who don't know.....OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer version -- which is the "free" version of powerdvd that comes with some blu-ray players and burners. It has less features than the "Ultra" version of Powerdvd, and patches for the Ultra version will not work on the OEM version of the software.]

If you have received such a patch, please post the link [via cyberlink's website] to it here within this thread.

Evidently a patch has been posted for the ultra version of powerdvd that has at least allowed "3:10 to Yuma" to play on that particular software application, but I am not aware of an OEM patch that has even addressed that movie [which was released on January 8th] yet. Cyberlink certainly hasn't presented me with one, after all of my inquiries.

Read my post here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=35843

The version included with Blu-ray drives is total crap, even the patches don't do much. I'm sorry, but you have to purchase the full $100 version (Ultra) from cyberlink.com.

That solved my problems, pretty sure will work for you as well.

You can upgrade from OEM to the full version for less than 100

Or I could choose to not financially support a company who treats their customers like dirt.

If nothing else, I'll just wait until their next patch comes out [allegedly] in mid-March (per their response to my emailed inquiry), which will supposedly allow a movie that was released on January 8th to play on their software.

I purchased the upgrade and now have the Powerdvd ultra deluxe. I have Hairspray, spiderman 3, planet earth...that works. I just bought Across the Universe and first it work but only in 2 channel audio in english, but somehow it was working 5.1 in portugeuse and spanish. so i found the update from 1/31 and updated the program. Now I'm in your situation, it would not play the movie and i can't select anything on the movie menu. Any ideas?

How strange....and vague.....and weak.....and typical....

I am however glad to hear that the "concern department" is involved in addressing the matter

BTW, coming from them, "Kindly co-operate with us to resolve the issue" = STFU.

I've encountered this same problem - PowerDVD won't play Across The Universe. Does anyone know if other software players (Nero or WinDVD) will play it successfully?

BTW, some standalone players (Samsung, for example) won't play Across The Universe either (same problem, can't select anything from the menu).

Bump.
My PowerDVD Ultra 8 (initial RTM version) is stuck on the intro screen of the Australian (B) version. I can see the play button but cannot click it. Tried with and without AnyDVD HD latest version.
I have reported this to Cyberlink as of 1 day ago.

This is my first title ever to exhibit such behaviour.

Bravo, Sony.

How about if they checked compatilibity with the major players out there before releasing the titles?? This is where my bravo was directed.

All this patching up is making me pretty tired.

Quoted for truth: The Java code (== software) done by Sony that is embedded in the Across the Universe title used to render the menu is not compatible with a lot of players out there.

Whilst Sony obviously think it's cool, and it may look good where there is no problem, I'm sure the users who are having trouble with their purchases think otherwise - myself being one of them.

*NOTE* Several BDs you cannot "click" on the menu items!
You have to use the arrows and Enter to navigate...

what's even better is when you try to ask for clarification, and they copy and paste the same answer... HIGH TECH over there

Ditch PDVD haha
but really try one of the other programs,
WinDVD cured some of my woes...
arcsoft didn't help much

30 day return policy on WinDVD
I still prefer it to Pdvd, even though it doesn't seem to do BD-live yet.

REMEMBER - PDVD vs WinDVD should be rated on a system by system basis.

WinDVD fails *HERE*.
PowerDVD 8 Ultra beats it hands down - *HERE*.
