Default Punisher: War Zone. Anyone anticipating this reboot?

Anyone excited for the third Marvel film coming this year? Punisher: War Zone is a reboot of Frank Castle (The Punisher) starring Ray Stevenson who battles Jigsaw.

If it is released on blu-ray at some point, I'm sure I'll see it. I liked the guy they used for the last one though.

Yeah, I liked Thomas Jane. I think he pulled out due to creative differences or something like that. I'll see if I can find the article.

Edited to add: I think Ray Stevenson is totally capable and look forward to see him in the roll.

I didn't know this was a reboot. I thought Jigsaw was going to be Howard Saint's son that he "killed" with the grenade. I heard that quite some time ago, though.

Thomas Jane pulled out because it was a real on again off again production and he got tired of putting all of his effort in it to keep getting jerked around.

Isn't Ray Stevenson also playing Snake Eyes in the upcoming GI Joe movie, as well as having played Darth Maul?

I'm assuming the Geeky Stoner and the Fat Guy aren't in it this time around.
(I'd ask "What was the writer thinking??", but since it was screenwriter Jonathan "Armageddon" Hensleigh's Big-Time Break for directing, we pretty much know what he was thinking, and he probably wasn't choosy.)

Now that Marvel calls their own shots, I'm guessing this is one more Incredible-Hulk style "reboot" repair, to keep things back under the safe-and-sane canon label--
As in, "Yes, we know it was somebody else's production that slipped through a contract loophole, but what the HECK was Frank Castle doing in Miami, anyway??--He's a Marvel New Yorker! "

Supposedly Thomas Jane LOVED playing the Punisher, but after he did the first one he started watching the message boards. He took note of everything the fans wanted to see and brought them to the director and producer. They said they were good ideas, but then systematically trimmed them down until they were back to the original script. Jane got pissed off and walked.
Punisher was my #1 character when I was a kid, so I'm kind of attached to whatever happens. I'm staying optimistic.

Supposedly it's full-out sequel, taking him to New York (I do agree...Miami?)
The Dave and Joan and fat guy were taken from the Ennis (I believe) story arc, also involving the Russian. The only real problem I had with the writing on that part was; it was already done in the comics. But, most comic movies seem to be story-arcs ripped straight out of the comics...there's not a whole lot of originality on the writer's parts.

Correct, this is the guy from the HBO series Rome. He played Titus Pullo.

I forget his name all the time...when you wrote that I had to think about it for a second. Ray Parks has also (supposedly) been slated to play Iron Fist forever and a day, but constant stall and set-backs...

here's what I found from Thomas Jane:

Quote:
In a letter to AICN Thomas Jane announced that he's dropping out of the Punisher sequel.

"I regretfully and painfully had to pull out of P2. I can't tell you how completely broken up I am about it. Punisher fans are already fighting an uphill battle as it is. And I've always felt a responsibility to fight that fight for them and with them so that Frank Castle gets the treatment he deserves" said Jane.

He added "What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I've always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I'll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch."

I think this all took place before a script and director was finalized.

Ray Stevenson's a good actor, and I think he'll do well as Frank Castle/The Punisher, but I still miss Thomas Jane in the role!

The info I got on it was from my friend. Usually, if I haven't heard about it, he has. It's possible we're both wrong (it's happened a couple of times), but every ounce of Jane's letter leads me to believe what I stated earlier was correct. "Fighting the fight for the fans" and so on...

I would have perfered Thomas Jane, and I know they wanted to keep him also, but I understand why he left. Like I say, as long as it is a good movie, i am all for it.

I really like Thomas Jane (from Thursday) but I never really got casting him as the Punisher.

Having said that, I think he did a good enough job and I really enjoyed the first movie. (I wish the director's cut was on Blu Ray.)

I'm going to be on board with this movie because of content, but I really can't stand the lack of continuity. I guess we are just going to have to treat them as two completely seperate entities...rather than a series.

Maybe if this was a Marvel Studios release, like Iron Man and the upcoming newer Marvel films, there would be more of a focus on continuity. It would seem that is one thing they are going for, with the exception of their hulk reboot.

It is a reboot (ignoring the first film)

Yes, because when the writers take liberties with the characters and storylines the fans are lined up around the block to enjoy the movie... right? /sarcasm.

See: Superman Returns and the first Hulk movie for details on what I mean.
