Hello All,
I am planning to upgrade my receiver from a 5.1 to a 7.1. Right now, my rear speakers are flush against the wall, as far back as they can go in my living room. I was thinking that maybe it might enhance the sound to get two smaller speakers, and place them ontop of my other surrounds. That way I have 7.1, although the speaker placement isn't the most ideal. I have attached a few pics of my rear speakers (Infinity primus 150s) DSC00844.JPG DSC00846.JPG DSC00848.JPG |

I've been researching this topic lately and i don't think putting surrounds on top of your existing surrounds will do anything buy give you more volume and muddy your soundfield. If you have room maybe you could move your couch up a couple feet and mount your new side surrounds to the wall or ceiling at about 190 degree angle from your listening position (slightly behind).
I guarantee someone on here is gonna tell you to paint or hide those speaker wires and i guess that anal retentive person would be me. ![]() |

Bad idea, would yield very muddy sound. If you feel you need 7.1, pull the couch away from the wall a couple of feet and put a set of stand mount speakers even with the couch and call them your surround speakers and your current speakers the rear speakers and move them in as far as you can. I would also say that your room, like mine, appears a little small for 7.1.

I have very little space myself, I live in an medium size Apt. If you look at the pics I have attached really close, You will see where I was lazy and didn't remove the old 5.1 speaker mounts. One side was a door way, so I had to mount them up high. Small space but still wanted full surround.
How come my pics never auto show? They are links? |
