Default Man, I sure hope HD DVD doesn't win

Have you guys seen the HD DVD Players Forum at AVS lately? Here's some of the thread titles. See if you can spot the trend. These were all taken from page 1 around 10:35 PM 5/2/07. (I did a shift+print screen for posterity.)

Uh, I like HD DVD and all, but if this many people are having these kinds of problems, why the fierce loyalty?

First, set up a site for discussing and certainly you'll attract everyone who has problems in one area, so you'll always have a distorted picture about how widespread problems are.

Though, it certainly is a lot of people having problems, that you're not seeing the same volume of issues in the blu-ray forum there.

But they are the people who will continue to work around all the problems just because they have a grudge against Sony.

It's truly a wonder why they think first run Chinese manufactured hd-dvd players built from the ground up with "cheap" being the primary goal, is going to achieve better results with the consumers, who by the way, don't have any feelings either way about Sony... I predict a lot of returns if these Wal-Mart players do turn out to exist this holiday season.

To have a problem complaint thread is one thing, to have so many clustered near each other on page one of a forum is something else entirely. How can so many people have so many issues and yet defend the format so much???

Well, if HD DVD does win, then some companies that make working players will bring some out

Ater owning two defective hd dvd players....3 bd players and a PS3....you could not be more mistaken.
The BD player sections have 10% of complaints if that ...as compared to hd dvd players.

There was a poll at AVMS in the hd dvd player section that had 42% with player defects.....and those of us that bought from 2-4 defective players were not able to vote more than once.

Also a bunch of fan bois that had claimed their players were perfect ....later couldn't wait to get the next gen player....only to find out it had some of the same problems.
Every single pro review of the original HD-A1 mentioned player problems....which is a lot closer to accurate than 42%

Take all these HD DVD player issues, add very low cost chinese manufacturers to the mix and imagine the mayhem with J6P owners.

Did I miss something? Why are we all acting like these Chinese Wal-Mart players exist or are even HD DVD? Didn't they retract the statement? The statement that when directly translated implied Blu Ray anyway? I've noticed on the boards a kind of resignation on this issue. This Walmart crap is a non-issue ("at least right now," he said, covering his bases ).

Sadly I saw the same thing in an Xbox 360 forum I used to regular. People turning a blind eye to widespread disk scratching, hardware failure before even a years use and some replacement consoles dead right out of the box.

Mine? How about the tilt switch not determining if the console's vertical or horizontal so the 'top left' ring of light quadrant wouldn't settle in one position. The official USB WiFi adapter randomly not being detected and sometimes still not being detected after a reconnect. Disk scratching starting with Gears of War and lastly (but this may still be the case) stuttery transition animations in the Dashboard. I'm still a Windows user so the last one didn't surprise me all that much.

That mixed with all the tearing and poor framerate performance I was experiencing in third and even first-party games was what pushed me away from having once been a strong supporter of Xbox. I still look back at the original console very fondly and Rare are one of my favourite developers so I haven't completely cut myself loose from the 360. It's just sitting unused along with my Wii until those Rare/Nintendo classics maybe get released.
