Default Question about PCM

I have a PS3 and have really enjoyed BluRay on this player. My question is about the PCM currently being used on BluRAY. Can HDMI 1.3 transport the full PCM to a HDMI1.3 receiver and what does that receiver have to have in order to process that signal? I am trying to decide if a HDMI 1.3 AVR will make my PS3 fully fuctioning with these new audio codecs.

You don't need HDMI 1.3 to transmit PCM. HDMI 1.1/1.2 will be fine. You just have to make sure that the receiver can handle multi-channel over HDMI (which should be any of the newer ones over the past year at least).

HDMI has from day one supported 8 ch PCM but it is up to the CE maker to apply it.

I can't seem to find specs on HDMI 1.0 which was around from 2002, yet the 2004 HDMI 1.1 specs allowed for DVD-Audio, which leads me to believe that perhaps before that time it didn't allow for PCM over multi-channel?

Any to the OP, PCM is uncompressed audio so there is no decoding or encoding going on. Your PS3 will work fine on TrueHD tracks and PCM tracks through HDMI. You need to verify that the receiver accepts audio through HDMI and doesn't just do video switching. For exmple Pioneer just announced their new line of receivers in the "Pioneer" line which STILL do not accept audio through HDMI. All Denon receivers have HDMI 1.1 and accept audio and almost all Onkyo receivers do as well.

There still doesn't seem to be any timeframe on the PS3 supporting DTS-MA, which would be the only reason at the moment to be considering an HDMI 1.3 receiver.

So, all I have to do is purchase a receiver that does audio HDMI and not just video. My choice is one of the new Denon receivers where I can also do video upscalling from the output of the PS3 so that my older games can be upscaled and my current DVD movie selection can also be upscaled.

I currently own a Denon3910 but I think I am going to sell it. Maybe it is time for me to use Ebay. Thanks for the information.

Just keep in mind that the 3806 does not do upscaling, only switching.
The 3806 also will not upconvert a 480p signal, only a 480i.
You need to go one model up to get the goodies.
