Default GTA IV star only made $100,000

Niko Bellic wants his money.

Quote:
In a New York Times article, Hollick revealed that he earned about $100,000 for 15 months of work recording dialogue for his role as GTA IV's protagonist. The game, however, has gone on to rake in over $600 million in a mere two weeks.

And Hollick won't see a dime of it.

"It's tough, when you see Grand Theft Auto IV out there as the biggest thing going right now, when they're making hundreds of millions of dollars, and we don't see any of it," Hollick told the Times. "I don't blame Rockstar. I blame our union for not having the agreements in place to protect the creative people who drive the sales of these games."

"The first GTA 4 trailer generated something like 40 million hits online, and that's my voice all over it, and I get nothing. If that were a radio spot, I would have. Same thing for the TV ads. I recorded those lines for the game, but now they're all over television."
Poor guy. I think he deserves more.

Hell I would take $100,000 for simple voice acting and motion capture. Sure in the big picture he got ripped off based on what Rockstar is making off of him, but heck I would have taken it.

To quote Tracy Jordan from 30 Rock:

Tracy: It’s not fair, Liz Lemon. Everyone wins awards except for me. Even Shaquille O’ Neil got a Kid’s Choice Award for that animated movie we did.

[movie clip]

Tracy: I spent two days making that movie for my homie, and what did I get? A million dollars, a yellow Bentley, and nothing!

the guy knew what he was getting into when he signed the contract to supply the voice for the game! $100,000 to read a few lines, i mean really there is not much more than a couple of hours if dialogue for Niko and he makes $100,000! with my current salary it would take me 2 years and countless hours to make that much!

The parts I manufacture in one day sell for about $24,000 total, and I make about $125 in that day. This guy spoke into a microphone and made twice what I make. I'm sorry, was I supposed to feel sorry for him?

based off of how much the movie is going to make its really nothing, but for the job he did he got paid good! damn he should have had an agreement in place where he gets royalties off of what the game makes!

Yeah, I cant feel sorry for someone who made 100,000 voice acting. Sure, it's just a job like any other. He signed the contract to play the part. He didnt have to. Or he could have made sure he had a better contract. I dont see how RockStar is a badguy because their product is selling well. lol

What a tool, he is seeing $100,000.00 of it. Something he agreed to. They could have fed a parrot to receit the lines and the game would have been just as successful.

Sorry, but I can't say I feel sorry for what Hollick made for his voice acting contribution. Just sounds like he's capitalizing on the popularity of GTAIV to get more than what he signed his contract for. I don't hear the voice actors from the previous GTA's griping about what they got paid, and what about one of the "bigger" voice actors that's been doing this for a while: David Hayter from Metal Gear Solid? It'd be interesting to hear his point of view

What a moron...

If he had refused to accept that money before starting, they would have hired someone else...plain and simple...this guy thinks he is famous and deserves his piece of the pie, wrong! He wouldn't even be in the news if he didn't accept the job at all.

He needs to be approaching this from a different angle...he should be capitalizing off of his role and making money from that aspect.

+1. 100 Gs for voice acting is a sweet deal. I wonder what the programmers were all paid out during the entire creation process. Those guys work their asses off and are always being pressured with time restraints.

No sympathy once so ever.

I am sure it was not a few hours of recording. i read that it was about 15 months of work. That is alot of time. Im sure there were long days involved.
Yes, that is alot of money. If I EVER were to get some kind of contract for something in the entertainment industry, I would make sure there would be something that paid me if it made over a certain amount or got replayed on TV or somthing like that. I hear of actors that were on shows that get paid high up front but no residuals. Dumbass. Look at "Freinds". That show is in rerun heaven. Im sure the actors get paid everytime that show is on a rerun. Not a whole lot but if it is played on 100 different TV stations accros the US 5 times a night and they were to get paid even a few bucks per episode then they are doing ok.

This guy is probably a professional voice actor and a good one, I liked it, but he either shoould be happy with what he got or tried to get a better contract that guarenteed being paid in the future for special reasons. Sports players get a bonus if they achive stats.

Here's a decent article on what was paid to Hollick, http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/...00-000/1215423. Kind of interesting how the union hasn't done anything to address compensation for video game actors.

I think that most of you are taking it out of context. All that he is saying is that voice actors don't receive the same benefits as other actors.

He probably enjoys the money. I would be a little pissed at my union too if they failed to provide comparable benefits that another similar profession received.

I'll take Niko over some of the worst offenders in the movie business. Seriously, his voice was way more convincing with CG visuals then half of the A-list scientologists that get 100X that amount per movie.
