Default help with the internet on the ps3

my ps3 just died on me (discs don't load) and in an attempt to fix it i decided to try a system update. so i connected an ethernet cable from my CPU to the ps3 and it did not work.

some sort of error. it was able to get the IP address but it told me there was some sort of DCS error (or something like that)

just wondering if i should state this in the report as well.

i never did a system update online before nor have i ever used the online feature of the ps3. i always did system updates with a USB key

is there any way to test this to see if this is an issue as well? or did i just not sign up for online use?

any help would be appreciated

This is most likely just a connection error between your internet and ps3 that can be fixed with some troubleshooting. You have to connect online to sign up to use the playstation network in the first place. So that's not a problem. The ps3 not reading discs is a problem with the ps3 itself, and has nothing to do with the firmware. This is the only thing that you should report.

Ethernet cable from the cpu to the ps3? did you have to take the heatsink off?

he was being a smart ass since you said "CPU" and not computer.

Anyway, try to powercycle your router or modem that you hooked the cable from to your PS3. Some times they need to re-establish the IP info before they work.

How far are you getting on the Internet set up on the PS3 before running into problems.

-whats a powercycle?

-to answer how far i get, it states that he can locate the IP address but then on the next step it doesn't work and states some sort of error (I believe it was DCS error or something)
