Default Proof: HD DVD players are subsidized

HD DVD: Blu-ray Camp Spreads Lies, Misinformation

Quote:
Selling HD DVD players at a loss -- something that the Blu-ray camp questions the feasibility of -- doesn't seem to phase Chaplin. "That's just the way it is," he said.
That settles that.

Should we post this on AVS in HD-DVD section?

What a rediculous news item. The guy is bashing BD for spreading lies when almost everything out of his mouth is a lie or misinformation... Except for the fact that the players are subsidized that is.

Aww shucks, why let pesky little facts that aren't to my liking or advantage get in the way?

This is just bad business sense. You can't support a cost structure like that indefinitely. At some point it has to turn a profit. MS sold 360's at a loss and Sony sells their PS3's at a loss, but they know that they'll be able to recoup the money eventually. Especially through licensing, etc. Toshiba does not have that luxury, and their stockholders aren't going to put up with this indefinitely either.
