I have no idea why this was so maligned. I loved it.

Putting in my pre-order now.

I thought it was just ok. Very uneven. Good acting. Poor follow through on characters. You didn't really like or care about anyone and everything jumped from place to place far too quickly.

I'm loyal enough to Mann to blind-buy this. Shame it bombed theatrically.

I`d watch a three hour Mann movie about a glass of water just for his
amazing cinematography and choice of music
People also hated Miami Vice and its my favorite movie. I think its a highly underrated masterpiece. My taste is just different than that of the Avengers Hobbit masses, I enjoy grown up movies. So even though it bombed,
I am excited to see this!

You will love it then, it's classic Mann, and very similar in style to Miami Vice. I thought it was amazing. It's 2.5 hours of thriller/chase/action. It may not have the complex characterizations of HEAT, but it's gripping from start to finish and looks gorgeous, and the locations are stunning, particularly the
[Show spoiler]final action sequence in the middle of a huge torchlit parade in Jakarta, which is seen briefly in the trailer.

I loved the trailer, does the movie live up to it?

Although the characters are not fully fleshed out, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Too bad it got run over by the American Sniper juggernaut at the box office.

Yep. Just be prepared, it's not complicated or filled with deep characterizations like HEAT or even COLLATERAL, it's literally a 2.5 hour series of thriller sequences, but it's assembled beautifully.

Pace is an issue here. It definitley takes its time. I liked it. one of the few digitally cinematographed films I really enjoyed.

Same. The real problem for me was that it was slow because it was filled with a ton of things which cut have been easily cut and put in the bin. There was at least 20 minute footage that didn't mean anything to the plot or to the characters and was unnecessary, diluted the whole movie and made it bland.

Not to mention Hemsworth, who is still cementing his superstar status while being hardworking and playing convincing characters. But his casting on the role was plain weird... He doesn't look like a hacker. He fits totally in the role of a cocky F1 racing driver, but a hacker with his looks and body - barely... Not to mention the character's Bond-like skills in neutralizing enemies, and even more enemies with plenty of field experience. Where does a hacker learn that?

Frankly, very unconvincing movie. The idea was good and the trailer made it look interesting, but the final version of the project is hilarious and cannot be considered realistic, imo. It is supposed to be a serious movie, but it barely makes sense as such. A tough 6/10 from me.

I went to the theater thinking I was going to like this movie, but left disappointed. I thought the pace was off and Hemsworth was the wrong guy to cast for the role.

I'm not sure if my criteria for 'well made' matches yours, but personally I thought these are the noobest shootouts I have ever seen. European movies with less than 100k euro budget can make better scenes than these. It looked as if they took a bunch of not particularly dedicated schoolkids to do the special effects for a homework project.

If you are into the movie looking for good oldschool shootout scenes, look elsewhere. From the 'effects' part I personally liked the close-up 3D scenes on computer parts which can be seen in the trailer as well.

It's Michael Mann so I'll have to see it eventually but the trailers/TV spots never did anything for me, and the reviews obviously didn't help (although Reelviews, who I generally tend to agree with and trust the most, was favorable). Will wait for this to hit Blu-ray before giving it a rental.

Hm, doesn't sound good. I will still see, but a bit sceptical.
