Default Home Theater Set-Up Audio. Help!

Hey there! I recently bought a Home Theater in a Box that plays DVDs that can do 5.1 Channel. I have a PS3 linked to my HDTV and then RCA cables connecting to the HTIB. The thing is that the sound only comes out on the side speakers and the subwoofer. Am I missing a setup so I can maximise the 5.1 speaker of HTIB with my PS3?

Thanks in advance.

To get full surround, you need to use a digital coaxial cable, optical cable (TOSlink), or an HDMI cable.

PS3 has outputs for optical and HDMI.

So should I just connect the PS3 and the HTiB through digital audio optical cable?

That will allow you to use DD and standard DTS, as well as the 1.5 mbps DTS HDMA core. In order to get TrueHD, multichannel PCM, and DTS HDMA you'll have to get an HDMI receiver.
