Default Home Theater Set-Up?

I am going to buy a new receiver for the home theater set-up. My question is, is there a link on how to set it up using HDMI, I have a PS3 and a Xbox360 I am going to hook up to the receiver. I just want to know how to hook it all up right, and what all cables I will need.

Right now I have everything hooked up to the TV by HDMI cables, and then RCA cables from the audio out on the TV to the receiver. Why is it better to run HDMI's to the receiver first and then to the TV?

Is there a link were I can see how everything needs to be hooked up?

Good stuff.....guess you do not wish to turn on the receiver as your audio source every time you turn on the TV.

1) its less of a mess to have 2 hdmis go from your receiver to ur tv... all u need is 1 hdmi out from ur receiver to ur tv

2) if your receiver can decode hd codecs, u HAVE to run your ps3 through your receiver or else u WONT get HD audio codecs, because HD codecs cant go through optical cables.

So, I am going to do this:

PS3 -- HDMI --- Receiver
PS3 -- Optical -- Receiver
Xbox - HDMI --- Receiver

Receiver -- HDMI --- TV

And that is all?

How will I know if the receiver decodes HD? What do I need to look for?

You don't need optical from your PS3 to the receiver if you already have HDMI to your receiver.

Im assuming the reciever your using is the 606 in your sig....The 606 decodes HD audio, so your all set......

2 hdmi's running into your reciever, one from your 360, one from your ps3....then one hdmi out to the tv

Sony STR-DG720 <-- Cause it has the Bravia Sync. or the Yamaha RX-V363BL

Don't need anything crazy for the bedroom.
