Default Can the lasers be bought separately?

Does anyone know where to buy the blue laser diodes used in Blu-ray products? Who makes them?

I think you might have to contact Sony personally on that one. I heard they were pretty hard to come buy for awhile, which is what held up the production of the PS3.

I don't know where to buy them. But the known makers are:

Nicchia
Sony
Sharp (starting production)

And supposedly, although the IP issues are in question:

Sanyo
Toshiba
