Just wishful thinking but after trying various other players I finally went with a PS3 and love it. I have an Outlaw preamp with analog inputs does anyone think Sony would every use the Proprietary outputs for 5.1 analog sound? Don't get me wrong I love how my system sounds it just grates on me a bit knowing it could be better if the PS3 would decode Dolby True HD or DTS master HD and send it as a analog signal to my preamp. I know it's backwards thinking but I really don't want to upgrade my preamp.

the PS3 only has two DAC's onboard, making 5.1 analog impossible.
...however, i think it is possible for for an HDMI to Analog converter, but it would cost about as much as the PS3 itself. (i had seen an article a while back on one made by GEFEN i believe.) |

found it...
GefenTV Home Theater Audio Processor "The GefenTV Home Theater Audio Processor takes one HDMI source, converts the digital audio to 8 channels of stereo audio, and processes the resultant audio to meet Surround Sound format requirements. How it works Simply attach your HDMI video source to the HDMI input of the Home Theater Audio Processor. Attach your analog or digital stereo patch cables on the rear of the Audio Processor at the audio outputs (analog RCA jacks or a TOSlink digital output). Power cycle all connected equipment. You will now hear up to 8-channel Surround Sound audio from your HDMI audio/video source material." |

Yeah,
Time to upgrade to HDMI audio. You will spend more trying to avoid it then actually getting with the program. You will likely get a better AVR in the process. And,.. even if the PS3 could output analog you are likely better letting it output digital and then making the conversion in other equipment (like you surround processor or AVR.) -Brian |
