Default HD DVD on PS3?

is it possible for sony to give us a firmware to allow HDDVDs work on the
PS3? i doubt it, just curious? Or not cause the way the PS3 is built?

Why in the bloody hell, would you want them to do that. The answer is no. HD DVD uses a different type of laser, that is not built into the PS3.

cut the man some slack. He's just asking a question. A simple 'no' would have been suffice.

I agree. In fact, I wanted to ask the same question. While I know everyone hates HD DVD here, I believe it had released some if not more quality titles than Blu-ray has so far.

I think it's "possible" from a technical point of view, however never going to happen, perhaps if HD DVD had won but given that it's a dead format, and is falling into disuse there is no point in adding it.

To modify your PS3 in such a way would probably cost more than it's worth overall and be more trouble than it's worth.

The answer is NO, both technicaly (HD DVD was different then BD it is not the same disk structure and so not the same OPU) and pragmaticaly (why should Sony care if someone wasted their money on a tech that was infirior and had no chance of surviving just because a few handful of people wasted money on it)

no what we hate are people that are full of sh!t. So now HD DVD has better quality titles it is amazing what BS HD DVD fanboys will try and convince themselves of. Wake up smell the coffee, you wasted your money and go on with your life. Why should we deal with people that made a bad decision on a constant basis and be called fanboys because it gets tiring.

I don't think it would work, that would make the first technical issue (i.e. now you have a drive) but the PS3 does not have the SW to run HD DVD and I don't think anyone would ever make it.

You would think Toshiba would have figured that out but they have no time for there consumers . Toshibas busy getting ready to drop SUC players on the market so they can SUCK the home movie buyer dry once more.
Toshiba is dirt!

What...the f***? Who said I was ever a HD DVD fanboy? Look, I don't get great quality titles like Shaun of the Dead on Blu-ray yet. Blu-ray seems to be focusing too much on releasing Superhero, Action and Drama/Romance titles, because they think more people will be interested in them. Well, I'm not, and I think there were more HD DVD titles I'd be interested in.

So to you, that means I'm a HD DVD fanboy....right. *is a little too tired to care all that much*

Jeez, Anthony - a bit early for all that, don't you think? I'm with Lion King. He meant nothing by it, it was a question.

Most if not all of the HD DVD titles you folks would like to see on Blu-ray were from Universal. You guys gotta be a bit more patient. Uni only just recently announced the first Blu-ray wave. You can bet that the discs that did well on HD DVD will be on Blu-ray sooner than later. In the meantime, there will be plenty to spend your money on from now through Christmas.

Not everyone hates HD-DVD, I have made it all too clear that I was purple during the war and stayed that way until a victor was decided. I didn't get rid of all my hd-dvd's after it was over - as a matter of fact I've kept my HD-DVD's and will continue to do so. My hd-dvd player has a place in my system and so does my BD (the BD is just more prominate now because I have more BD titles than HD-DVD but they still need to be played). I'm a lover of good music, good equipment and good movies. If they are delivered properly - I'm fine ! I'm actually going to look at my first 1080p purchase that I ever made - finally in 1080p - it was before BD or HD-DVD hit the stands...It's a WMV-HD called "Stormechasers" an IMAX film that I usually watched the 720p version - now I can see the 1080p version with my new Phillips! It's all good to me ... it's all good.

no mikey3319 was the one with a question, and I and many others gave him a serious answer. The Lion King was the one with the BS about how everyone that points out that it cannot and will not happen is an HD DVD hater since HD DVD has better quality titles.
