Too expensive for a media machine. Best use is for a boot drive and for a working drive for video editing.

If its 2.5" and SATA, it'll work. Expensive but it'll work.

There are some out there that will work with the ps3 but like everyone above me has said they are kinda expensive. Wait a little bit till there are cheaper and with bigger capacities.

Cheaper to buy an external and back up your PS3 regularly. Would save a ton of money and give just as much protection.

Much faster.
It doesn't use disk platters that spin, which is what really holds the performance of the HDD.
But don't expect it to be amazingly dramatic like those SSD vs. HDD videos on Youtube because those are laptops and not a game console.
But you will find a better performance.

Hopefully someone will do a whole comparison soon like they did with 5400RPM vs. 7200RPM for the PS3

Sadly that comparison was done, and it had slower instalations of games, but faster load times...

chrisshea posted the article but did not paste what it said so I do that now as a helper to those who browser here at work.

"At a cost of $400, it's hard to justify purchasing a solid state drive, especially when you consider that the money could buy you a whole new console. The argument becomes even more difficult to push when the benefits of said drive aren't universal. Load times improved, but installation times increased tremendously. More expensive SSDs have faster write speeds, but at almost four times the cost. There certainly are benefits to upgrading to a solid state drive, but we wouldn't recommend doing so until the prices and speed are more in line with performance expectations. Fortunately, solid state drive prices seem to halve every year, and performance is improving. We shouldn't have to wait much longer for SSDs with larger capacities, better performance, and lower prices."
