Default “The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight” special that aired July 16

Did anyone see it?

I missed it and it looks like ABC will not be putting it On Demand or re-airing it, so I guess I truly missed it due to a cable outage. And nowhere on YouTube either. Just clips.

It was called “The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Robin Roberts". It covered the legacy of the series, from the development of the animated film, to the stage production, to the new film, with director, cast, and other miscellaneous interviews. It hopped along, obviously, being only an hour, but it was a notch above standard EPK stuff. They debuted Beyonce’s “Spirit” video, but it went right on YouTube anyway. I really don’t remember anything significant, otherwise I would be more help. I don’t think you missed anything, but it was a fun glossy overview of the franchise.

Thanks. I am so upset ABC won’t put this On Demand. It sounded like a good special so I am sad I was/am unable to watch it.

That’s a bummer. With the work they clearly put into it, it makes no sense not to have it available to stream. I mean, they paid for Elton John and Beyonce interviews. Keep looking. It has to be put up eventually.

I did see the “Spirit” video from the special that Beyonce released. But that was it. Odd clips here and there but would rather watch it as one piece.

It covered the animated film first, then the broadway film, then the live action, kept heavily advertising the Beyonce music video then showed a "Just can't wait to be king" clip.

It was more fluff.

This special probably had more information than what can be expected on the blu-ray release. Shame I missed it and not available to stream.

Not really. Jungle Book's remake had a pretty solid 30 minute making of, I'd like something similar. This movie has the best special effects of the year so I'd love to have plenty of making off material

It did have the utterly hysterical scene of everyone wearing the VR goggles while a camera man films. I need to see a picture in picture version of the movie with that footage.

I think I finally found my answer to why this special was aired once and never put On Demand or elsewhere. It’s licensing. I bet they paid Elton John and Beyoncé (and ability to air their music) for a short term license (which is far cheaper than a full license) which means they can air it once and never again per the license agreement. They did it this way since as another person stated it was meant as a promotional thing for the new Lion King movie. Well at least I found my answer as to why it was aired once.

Now I am curious, did anyone DVR this?

If only I had known before this aired that it was a one time thing, I would have had a friend or neighbor DVR it for me (since it was only us that lost cable).

Still looking to watch this. I wish Disney or ABC would release it on iTunes or something. Even if I had to pay $19.99 for it, I would be all in.

So ABC did another Lion King special last night about the Beyoncé album for the Lion King, The Gift, and guess what? It’s available On Demand! So how come they STILL won’t make The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Robin Roberts available On Demand? Both are promotional in nature so why is one available while the other not?

Maybe it'll be on Disney Plus.

I just sent ABC a message asking if this special will ever become available. Hoping I hear back.

Very odd that one Lion king special (Beyoncé’s The Gift) was available On Demand the very next day, but this one was never available. Still can’t figure out why this was never available On Demand. I really hope I can find a way to see it someday. I am soooo MAD I did not have the hindsight to have a neighbor DVR it for me. If only I knew.

So, while this documentary may be lost to time, the actual making of on the digital and Blu release does have a lot of the same footage on how they made the movie, but it goes more in depth (the tv special only covered about 3-4 minutes on how they made the movie compared to the 20 minute chunk of the making of). It's less of a fluff piece compared to this promo.

Interesting. Does it include the same interviews?

Some here and there, but it goes much more in depth. Looks like the special and the documentary were filmed at the same time.

Good to know. Does it cover the whole franchise including the original film, broadway and live action remake like the ABC special did, or just focuses on the live action remake? Also is Beyoncé featured at all in this documentary or just includes the Spirit video? (I saw the list of special features included and see the music video for Spirit is there)

It's just really the live action film, though the animated film is brought up a lot. Some of the D23 reel is actually shown. Beyonce is featured in some of the interview scenes.

The best way I can describe the making of documentary is taking the live action segment from the promo and extending it to fifty minutes. It covers the film a lot better than the promo ever did, that's for sure

A few weeks ago I was able to find some footage filmed of the Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Robin Roberts playing on someone’s TV. Unfortunately it was only the last 15 minutes of the special. So I happened to see the entirety of the live action Lion King segment which I thought was well done. I also saw the Beyoncé ”Spirit” video online (since that was readily available). It’s nice to know there is a better extended documentary of just the live action Lion King on the Blu-ray special features.

I really just need to see the first two segments of the special which covered the original animated film and the Broadway production which unfortunately are not covered in the extended documentary on the blu-ray. Would had loved to see the whole franchise covered.

Still looking for the special if I ever can see it. Really just need to see the first two segments since I found/watched the last segment.
