Hey Gang-
I am a happy owner of a set of Polk RM6750 5.1 surround speakers and onkyo 606. With my being a NEW owner, I am curious about how audio should sound when watching cable television. It seems as though there is a lot of popping and cracking from listening to television broadcasts and sports; is this what you experience? It almost worries me because it seems the sounds aren't good for the speakers. It probably doesn't matter and is standard for cable broadcasts but want to hear what you all think! ![]() |

Hard to say where the problem originates. Could be a rough signal from the cable or satellite provider. If it happens on all channels and you're running a fiber optic cable for audio, it's likely NOT the fiber optic. Try running the fiber optic into another input in the receiver and see what you get. If it's fine, you know your input is bad. If you get the same issue, you know it's not the receiver especially if you don't get that issue with FM or anything else.
Try taking just the stereo RCA jacks out of the cable/satellite box instead of the fiber optic, swith the receiver over to analog and see if you get the same issue. If not, there's a good chance the fiber optic output on that box is bad. |

I have the same speakers and the 605 and don't have any issues with that. I would guess either something's not plugged in all the way or it's your cable reception. I'd definitely recommend trying a different input or even a different input type. Do you get this noise just running the audio through your TV speakers? How about from other sources (dvd/blu-ray, etc)?
Answering those will probably help you eliminate what isn't the problem and discover what is. |

I have DishHD, and absolutely have no crackling or popping issues. Most broadcasts come through crystal clear in DD 5.1, so I think you're definitely having an equipment issue on your end.

To test, detach the dish cable from your cable box while you are getting the noise. If the noise goes away, check your local A/V store for an in-line transformer to put between the cable and the box. This will eliminate the problem while not degrading the signal Good luck! |
