Default Onkyo 606 Crossover

I've got the Onkyo 606 and Polk rm6750 5.1 setup. My woofer is pretty much only doing very deep rumbles and nothing more. Talking to an a/v guru that I know, he said to set the crossover frequency up to 120hz (as the polk guide also suggests) so that the sub gives off more kinds of sound other than just the super-low end. That being said, where the heck can you do this on the 606??? I've found the db settings, have gone through the manual, and can't find this setting. It shows "hz" speaker settings for every other speaker but the sub (p.s. I did the audyssey straight off and this is where I'm at still)

I have the 805 and I set my sub to 120Hz and let the 805 do all the work using the audyssey setup. Afterwards I used the 805 menu's to make minor tweaks to the sub to my preferences. Did the audyssey pickup on the Sub or the 606 show it being present?

Audyssey did pick up the sub. Do you mean that you set the physical dial on the back of your sub to 120hz? Also do you get much mid-range sound....I only get low rumbles...

Exactly set the freq on the sub to 120hz and let the audissey adj. If it is too low then audissey will not detect it. I believe their is a gain knob for the input to the sub also, turn it up also as per the 606 instructions. After the audissey calibration then adj the db level, distance (if needed) as desired in the 606 onscreen menu's. I kicked my A$$ the first time also, but with my new receiver i have never heard my sub thump like it does now. If setup properly it should just be low end bass and no mid range. the audissey setup should adj the output freq to sub locally at the reciever. You can go back and adjust the sub to preference as needed.

At what distance did audyssey pick up the sub? When I setup my sub Audissey first had it at 30ft. After I changed to 120hz and turned the gain up all the way it went to 14ft. Afterwards I changed the distance to about 9ft and adj to 4.5db. Granted it depends on the room acoustics and configuration but audissey does have a hard time detecting the sub.

It depend. A lot of new SUB have DSP in them. DSP cause LAG in audio processing. Audyssey just detect this LAG and put the distance to correct it. Most of the time the 'Wrong' distance from the sub detected by Audyssey is the correct one to compensate for the lag inside the Sub itself. There's a thread on AVSForum from a Audyssey Representative that explain it all..

Thanks I was not aware of that and I will search for the thread. I believe the sub I own does not have DSP. In my current setup I am pleased with the sound I have and I will set it back to the original 14ft and see if there is even a difference.

Make sure you have the 606 hooked up in some fashion to display the GUI on your HDTV- chances are you already have HDMI and it'll display on that. That way it'll show up on the set instead of just using the Onk display. Hit the "Setup" button on your remote and switch your HDTV over to HDMI, then choose Speaker Setup (I think it's option 1?) Then in that menu I think the 2nd option will allow you to set the crossover levels. Yours may be a bit different as I only have the 605 but once in there set your crossover to 120hz for the front and surrounds (assuming you're using the 6750 straight without some different fronts) and set the sub setting as high as it'll go- 120hz. If you do that after running the Audessey setup you should be golden.

I'm totally doing this from memory, so check in your manual under the advanced settings if you get stuck.
