Just watched this movie on Blu-Ray and while I don't claim to be any sort of audio/video expert I have to say the picture on this disc was the best of any I've seen to date. Absolutely stunning! I own about 40-50 blu-ray discs and this was easily the best in my opinion. What does everyone else think?

P.S. As for audio quality, can't say because I don't have a DD setup.

Ha ha actually I just have watched this movie and it provided the PQ as I expected. PQ rating is exceptional according to the review source. It's a top notch, extremely professional.

Get this movie you all.

I'm watching the movie again right now because the PQ is too good. The images in the light area are not overblown. The contrast balance is virtually perfect. The colors are dead-on. There is no exaggerations in colors - though I don't have any problem with exaggerated colors - this one is dead on accurate. I read the review about 3 weeks ago and I knew this is going to be good. Today I went out and just bought it. It is bringing me smiles.

I thought the video quality was excellent too. This is a tricky movie...the untrained eye would probably walk away not apprecciating the fact that despite the film being 98% in the dark, the detail...black levels and color were spot on. Too often the bright day lit type flicks (nature doc's etc) get all the glory...it's nice to see a good dark film show it can be done.

ulri4651, you should change your subject to --> "Vacancy - The Picture Quality is Ricidulously Good. Is this thing broke or what".

If you do that, you will get more hits on your thread. I did that on my thread and it works good. People just keep clicking... lol.

It is a nice looking film for it being dark. Another dark film done right is The Descent -- inky blacks and loads of detail.

I'm watching this movie for the 6th time now.

This movie is a really good tool to test out how well your TV can display black levels. Man if you try running this thing on a LCD or Projection set you would be screwed... The LCDs are not known to show super deep black levels in the dark. Watch this thing in the dark room with very lightly lit room or no light. My highly tweaked high-end HTPC Plasma (w/ DVI-D) is barely handling it.

PQ is very very "good".

This is a good testing tool for handling darkness.

Pictures are extremely clean in the dark. No speckles, no blemishes, no graininess, colors are not over-saturated, it maintains AWESOME flesh tones in the dark. It is very tough for the film to retain such great PQ in the extreme dark scenes. But this movie has no artifacts nor any redish skin tone you get from some of the older films. The flesh tones are absolutely dead-on throughout the entire movie.

You need some high-end, well calibrated plasma or CRT to get the best out of this movie if you're going to watch this movie in the dark. Watching the dark movie in the black dark room is the toughest challenge for your TV. If you watch this movie in the daylight the LCD can handle this... but if you watch it in the dark you are screwed... lol

I give this movie PQ rating as follows:

Black Levels = 9.90
Contrast Balance = 9.90
Clarity = 9.98
3D depth = 9.70
Color tones = 9.99
Flesh tones in the dark = 9.99
Details in the dark = 9.90

Whoever recorded this movie, come on out. Don't go hiding behind that couch, camera man. This ain't no fool, no amateurs' job. This is some highly experienced sick professional dude who did this work. This takes a lot of tweaking, fine tuning settings, and a real high-end camera. Normal HD camera can't do this good... C'mon on out camera man. Don't be shy. Let's meet and I buy you a cup of coffee.

.

I rented this disc last week and viewed it on my CRT in near-darkness (low-wattage bulb placed behind the set as per recommendation of Digital Video Essentials). Seemed to be a good looking film and dark in more ways than one. Of course on my 1080i set I lose out a bit in the resolution department. But I could see the improved contrast as against certain older BDs such as Total Recall and Sleepy Hollow, which come across as pretty gray and washed out by comparison.

My wife found this movie disturbing. I thought it looked great. We travel alot and stay at motels often so I can see where she is coming from. We would never stay at anything like that place anyways but you know shit happens.

I got this today and wanted it because I thought it was great when I caught it the first time and for the extra features.

The quality is exellent, I hadn't noticed any grain at all in the dark parts.

I just have one small question about the alternate opening scene from the extra features, did they originally plan to show the ending at the start of the movie in that kind of way or did they mess up and mean to call it the alternate ending?

I actually think it's a good horror movie for the last few years, I also think it has a very dark feel to it, almost like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I would appreciate an answer from somebody who knows what I'm talking about too.

I hadn't realized there was a prequel coming out but it appears there is after a quick google.

They also have revealed the plotline for the upcoming thriller:

When Jessica, her fiancee Caleb and Caleb's buddy Tanner check into the lonely Meadow View Inn in the middle of rural nowhere, they have no idea that the motel is run by a homicidal maniac and two vicious greedheads who are making a bloody dollar by selling snuff films on the black market...

Principal photography is set to begin on March 17 in Los Angeles. There is no word yet on when the film is slated for a release.
Plus the IMDB link: www.imdb.com/title/tt1204979

I'll watch it, see how it goes.

Wrong Turn was a horror movie I thought couldn't have a second movie, but it did and it worked pretty well I think.

That was completely random, what does Hostel have to do with Vacancy?

Hmm, I loved Wrong Turn a LOT (I must have seen it at least 6 times already), but the sequel was decidedly B-Grade. Even with Henry Rollins. It had its moments but it did a disservice to the original. And to the lamented late Stan Winston, who was behind the original. The make up and mutant design was just so cheap in comparison.

I thought Vacancy was a pretty good movie too. And I couldn't believe how nice Kate Beckinsdale was looking in it. Not heavily made up too. She is aging so nicely.
