Default ps3 reading 1080p?

i have a question and maybe someone can help me out. i have my ps3 hooked up to my 50 panny via hdmi. it reads it as 1080p, but i was pretty sure my panny is only 1080i. i also feel like i'm not quite getting the best PQ out of it. is there such thing as it's not giving me good PQ because it thinks it is 1080p, not 1080i. any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Ah. maybe your TV accepts a 1080p input signal. My panny is 720p native, but accepts a 1080p sig.

I was thinking the same thing. The tv just down converts it to play on screen.

however, it does look better with the converted 1080p though. on my panny you can definitely tell the difference between the 1080p input sig and the others.

most non full hd tv's, if they do 720p it will accept 1080i. Even a 576p tv will accept 1080i because of the amount of lines. Most 1080i tv will downscale 1080p to 1080i, there is a difference in quality, but its only noticable if you are complete 1080p snob - like me.

Also you may want to check the fps (hz) of the game/movie you are watching if it runs at 50hz then i've noticed that this is normal for 1080i pictures. If you are running at 60hz thats would usually indicate a 1080p signal.

I could be mistaken, but my sky hd runs 1080i at 50hz and my ps3 1080p at 60hz.
