Default PS3 not reading discs! Please Help!

Hi everybody, I'll keep this brief. I've had my PS3 since Dec of '06 and I've never had a problem until now. My ps3 is having a hard time reading any disc I put it. This started happening four days ago but it seems the problem is getting worse by the day. After 5 or 6 times of inserting and ejecting game or Blu-ray discs, the disc finally shows up on my XMB. Where as before it worked perfectly on the first try. Can someone please point me in the right direction or help me out if its something I can take care of at home? Thank you to all!

I just sprayed some Dust-Off directly into the disc drive, waited a few minutes for it to dry and now its working like day 1. Thanks for your input though UPSandy. You we're right, the laser was going bad due to dust. Man I'm so relieved! lol

It is a known issue with the PS3 that the Blu laser diode assembly has a sticky gel surrounding it (lubrication?). Anyhow, unfortunately it attracts dust like a magnet to iron shavings. Make sure you frequently vacuum the vents to remove as much dust as possible. Glad to hear that you've got it up and running again though!

Oh I didn't know all that much about the laser, thanks for the info though! And also thank you for the tip of vacuuming! I clean my ps3 monthly and I've never vacuumed the vents, I've cleaned them, but not vacuum. Makes total sense, thanks man!
