Default Is HD sound worth it?

HI guys,
I want to know if Dolby trueHD, Dolby plus dts-HD is worth the extra money and a 7.1 system.
i currently have 5.1 system Dolby dig and pro logic 2. I dont want to pay 500+ for a hd recevier if the sound is not much better.
Thanks guys

What speakers do you run? You'll get a lot of biased advice here.... but for many "no" it's not worth it.

If you know someone that has it or if you can demo a system that is setup for it to check out yourself, then I think you will be able to see if it is worth it to you or not.

Whether it is worth it or not.. I can' answer that but there is a difference between the codecs yes.

I upgraded my Sony ES 5.1 DD DTS reciever to an Onkyo 805 to enjoy the new DTS MA and Dolby Tru-HD. I also wanted the capability of later upgrading to 7.1 and having the 3 HDMI inputs since my TV only has one HDMI input.

That is the right question.

You'll almost certainly get a bigger increase in sound quality by spending your money on speakers (and room treatment, if that's something you're willing and able to investigate).

In re: the quality (as in accuracy) of the audio you hear, yes. IMHO, of course!

No....

For the same money, (less actually) get the Polks on sale at Fry's... the tower speakers (not sure what they are) and a center speaker to match...

three of those will set you back $210 or so, and you'll have a greater improvement in sound (keep using your surrounds.)

It depends on if you are more of an audio person or more of a video person. If you are like me , I thrive off of great sound from a movie, and the new audio formats are what Blu is all about (DD TrueHD, Uncompressed, and DTS-HD Master Audio). There; I said it. I will rebuy a movie on Blu-ray if the sound is super-improved. If not, SD dvds will suffice.

Smile Pcm Uncompressed Audio

Hi I Think Pcm Uncompressed Audio Is The Best On Blu Ray Why Have They Limited The Audio Now ? Most Of The New Discs Are Dolby Tru Hd, Dts Hd Master Audio When I Play Certain Movies In Normal 5.1 And Then Switch To Pcm Wow Now Its Better Then The Cinema

Sony 46" Lcd Bravia
Sony Av Receiver
Sony Bdp S300 Bd Player
Sky Hd

If you're a sound buff, lose those Pioneer speakers NOW! There are many better choices, depending on your budget. What is your budget?

And yes, HD is definitely worth it, but you have more pressing audio problems than the audio codecs you can handle right now... Sort your speakers out, then look at a new receiver.

Why even ask then? HD audio makes a noticable difference. Even on crappy speakers. HD audio can even make you realize how sucky your current speakers are too! I would recommend upgrading your speakers first though.

Of course, but where will the OP get the biggest improvement for money spent? Several of us are suggesting speakers are the way to go.
