if it sounds that good to you, why let a lower MSRP scare you away ?

The feature set is pretty comparable to similar priced units. MSRP shouldn't scare you away. The 354 is priced in the 500-700 range, iirc and the feature set matches that if you ask me.

I would say there are better units if you pay more, but they are definitely contenders in the sub $1k range.

I don't swear by HK, but I like the sound more than, say... the commonly praised Onkyo's. I wouldn't mind an HK with a Reon and more advanced EQing and maybe a network connection too (something like Onkyo 875 or Denon 3808 level), but they don't offer them :/

Im selling my onkyo 605 for a hk 254/354. I've had them before but wasn't up to latest specs why I sold it. They sound very good for the money and I like the looks of them.

Harman Kardon gear tends to sound warmer and more musical than some of the other manufacturers. They are also more honest in their amp section ratings than some others who use inflated numbers. Anyone looking for a nice sounding receiver for music can't go wrong with Harman Kardon. I will say their quality control has slipped a little in recent times, so be sure to buy from an authorized dealer in case of a problem.
