Ok I have a Sony LCD projection tv and I am tired of replacing the lamp in it and I want to buy a new tv with better or equal picture and I want it most imoportantly to last super long. What tv do you think is best LCD? Plasma? DLP? and why please as im not too up on this stuff. Im looking for preferably a 52 to a 55 inch tv and it must last a looong time without anything blowing out. So what are your suggestions? Any help would be most appreciated. OH and it has to be 1080p of course.

Well. I am a big fan of Sharp LCDs, they come in 52" sizes and will last you a long time. Also Sony makes excellent LCDs as well. For plasma i have a samsung. I use it for movies only because it gets a lot of image retention. Now i know samsung is not the best plasma, from what i understand Pioneer and Panisonic Kuros are the best plasmas. For a 60" Pioneer Plasma it's about 5500 CDN. LCDs and Plasmas have both ups and downs. LCDs don't have the blacks plasma have but get no image retention. Plasmas have a excellent Picture quality but have IR (I do not know if the Pannys and Pioneers get image retention) I love em both. My LCD a little more because i love playing games so it gets no Image Retention (Different from burn in). I hope this helps.

those sizes, look at getting a Samsung LED DLP, the 'lamp' is good for 20,000 hours, that is 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 5 years of veiwing.
Or you could wait a little for the Mitsubishi Laser tv's, 100,000 hours life span, that is like 15-20 years. http://www.believingisseeing.tv/?gcl...FSIragodCBW2qw Last edited by clyon; 08-04-2008 at 12:21 AM. |

well I'm not to sure if you want to stick with projection but, I read that consumer reports did a test on plasma and LCDs. They found that LCDs have a very low 5-7% failure rate and plasmas were even less. I think the winner was a panasonic plasma that had a low 3% failure rate. So as far as it lasting a long time you really can't go wrong. Also, my advice to you is that since you do plan on keeping your set for "a long time" I say you get a top quality/model tv that is out on the market now. Because in a few months those low end/mid end TVs will no longer be up to par with the new stuff coming out and you'll be wishing you had that instead. I say wait till the new 9 series samsung comes out. LED backlighting and 120hz you really can't go wrong with that.

Ok from what Ive gathered im thinking of getting a 1080p 52 inch sharp or a 61 inch samsung 7 series 1080p dlp. Which tv is better do you think? Or if you think they are both crap and not worth it let me know and tell me your suggestion.

Whats your budget?
If I were looking again, I would go with a Panasonic Plasma or either a Samsung or Sony LCD. I have read that rear projection TV's are on their way out over the next few years. And is a reason there are fewer on the market. LCD Samsung 52" 550 $1800 Samsung 52" 650 $2500 Sony V 52" series $2100 Sony W 52" series $3000 Plasma Panasonic 50" 800U $2500 Samsung 58" $3000 Panasonic 58" $4000 You could wait to see the new Samsung 800 and 900 series TV's they are supposed to be something really speacial, but I am sure they will be in the $3500-$5000 range. Pioneer makes a great plasma, but you will pay for it. So whats in your budget? Also, Amazon May be cheaper and offer free delivery. Many would argue that these are prolly the best of the brands and the respective types. I love my Samsung. If you have your tv on a lot, like I do with little children and video games, then go LCD. If you are mostly watching movies then go with a Plasma. Anyways I hope that helps |
