Default Why region code Blu-Ray Discs??

As title, why?

Wouldn't the free flow of BD playing capability across the world be beneficial in terms of spreading and expanding this new technology and would probably induce more users who might be holding back on purchasing one just because he/she travels a lot and play a lot of foreign BDs?

I know DVD has codes, but I personally has one of those play-all-region DVD players at home, so its not an issue for me.

So, why is BD doing all this region codes and is it going to change in the near future?

For the same reasons that DVD did: To protect the distribution rights of the local distributor, even, as in Fox's case that local distributor is a division of the same company.
