Default Do we respect the old folks on Blu-ray.com?

Well, we have the Mods..the all seeing all knowing....the Blu-ray Guru the old folks...the special members...working there way up to Blu-ray Guru status...the senior member the junior's and the new...

now I ask a simple question why is it that the younger folks beat up on the old folks...

Really? I find that its the relatively-young-account-aged folks who pick on the new folks, from what I've seen. Most old folks don't pick fights, honestly. But we have strong opinions and will show them when provoked. Or cornered. Like bears.

It's mainly n00bs Vs. n00bs around here. It's actually quite entertaining to watch them argue.

Considering my join date and my actual age, I get quite a bit of respect around here. Not that anyone is kissing my butt, but my opinions and blu-ray.com forum articles are rarely sucessfully challenged. If they are, I am equally sucessful at defending them. But no one is currently attacking me.
Considering my history here, I appreciate it that people respect my opinion. Either that or they are just ignoring me.

But I am also big enough to take the new information I have learned and grow from it. That is how you EARN respect. I have always believed that 10% of respect is common courtesy and that you must earn the remaining 90%.

To go along somewhat with what Tron said, I think it's just a lack of common courtesy that has flooded the site over the last six months. People attacking people's opinions just to be argumentative, specifically about cables and taste in films and things of the like. I've noticed that a lot of the older members and myself (don't know if I'd be considered an older member or not, but I participate in the site every day) just kind of ignore most of the BS anymore. I have a list of people whose posts that I basically ignore.

Honestly, I think it's the newer members that like to instigate. I try to avoid getting in arguments because they're pointless, at least to me. I try to give everyone here the benefit of the doubt, unless they cross the line. Then they better watch out.

Stecke, send me that list. No, seriously though. Unless my name is on that,

The above bolded statement has been INCREDIBLY ridiculous lately.

i like to throw down with semi newbies, and those who attack my old school homies. but i haven't had any good rivals for a while.

but the newbies are defensive and may come from other threads where they're used to bickering and being rude. once they have been here a little while they learn. they all learn

I've not been here that long, but I think the issue is symptomatic of a general lack of courtesy and social interaction skills exhibited across most forums over the breadth of the internet. Not sure this will ever get any better.

This is now the only forum that I actively participate in and that is due to the nucleus of mature (by disposition, not age) contributors and, for the most part, the judicious actions of the mods. Between these two I think we have a core of reason that most "drop in" trolls and morons ultimately flounder against. I think this encourages the folks who have genuine, positive input to stick around and enjoy the site.

This is completely true, the amount of times that i see people with 100 - 200 posts telling noobies to "get a life" or "use the search function noob" or anything along those lines has gotten stupid.

I just dont get how people can't be helpful towards others, especially new guys to the forums.

This is exactly why I posted I wanted to see what the "old folks" had to say. Most of the response in here are from names that I know and like tron said

"But I am also big enough to take the new information I have learned and grow from it. That is how you EARN respect. I have always believed that 10% of respect is common courtesy and that you must earn the remaining 90"

Well said.

Sometimes there are too many opinions here and people like to fight there point. but like they say opinions are like a$$holes, everyone's got one

I have been attacked a few times on here, but nothing major. mostly due to my own opinions. but whatever
