Default convinced my folks to go Blu

so the 'rents want a new DVD player. they are both 60 something, by the way. my mother is showing me all these SD models she found online. i cringed and talked her into a Blu-ray player (they have a 1080p TV). the obvious choice . my dad has a PS2 and jams on Burnout 3 and Gran Turismo quite a bit. he also has some dog fighting game like Blazing Angels or something. so i was able to coerce them into purchasing a PS3. "as long as i can play my PS2 games on it," he said. gonna have them pick up the 80GB model and an HDMI cable. hopefully it still comes with Motorstorm. once he plays that he will never touch those PS2 games. had to remind mom that Hope Floats, King Arthur, Lonesome Dove, and Ottmar Liebart Live are not available on Blu yet. hopefully they never will be .

Do him a favor and check the PS3 compatibility chart for his PS2 games.

I would suggest a 60GB if you can find one. Backwards compatible with almost every PS2 game (97%?) vs. the 80GB which is supposedly only BC with about 70% of titles.

Get the 60 gig and get your Dad Warhawk! If he's a gamer and can handle it he'll be in dog fight heaven.

oh man he will love warhawk. are there still 60 GB models on the shelves? i went on the PS website and checked the B/W Compatibilty for all his games on the 80 GB model and they all work, apparently. what else is the 80 missing that the 60 has? is it just compatible with less PS2 titles?

Glad to hear it, Welcome to Blu-ray. You will not regret it at all.

Your dad should still keep the PS2..not all PS2 games are 100% compatible with PS3. PS2 is still a keepable system.

im also glad to hear it.....BUT get this...

my brother, sister and I chipped in and got my parents a PS3 for christmas (from santa of course)

the kicker is, my parents also got my brother and sister EACH one because I am always talking about blu-ray.

for me they got a fastmac blu-ray drive for my comp, lost season 3, and close encounters on blu.

most blu christmas this year? perhaps....

heathward, you're so gonna get it from your Mom. She'll blame you for causing your Dad to spend hours playing games and buying and rebuying movies in BD. Mark my words...
