Cool Finally convinced the wife we need a new receiver

Ever since I got a PS3 and blu-ray I've been wanting an HDMI receiver for PCM and TrueHD sound. Well after a few months of wearing on her, my wife finally gave in to the idea of getting a new receiver.

I thought about getting a new 1.3 receiver since they are rolling out, but for what I need the Denon AVR-887 is in my price range and offers the best bang for the buck and has all the options I want I can't wait.

ahhh, one of the advantages of being single - no discussion. except maybe w/my wallet, which is telling me "hell, no you can't buy a receiver". so I guess the end result is the same.

My only problem now is I maybe too late to jump on an 887. I've checked some sites and no one has it in stock or it's gone from the website. I can finally get one and now I'm having trouble locating it.

All I can say is, that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

I hear you man. I have been hinting around to my wife for months now that we need to get a new receiver. So I was pleasantly surprised to open my father's day card and it stated one free gift for yourself with no lip!!
New receiver here I come. And by the way congrats to you!

Are you sure this model decodes sound via hdmi? the price is awfully cheap. some of these new receivers that do retail for thousands.

The Onkyo 605 is about US$499. Some places got it for US$399.

answer: I am pretty sure that the PS3 only has HDMI 1.1 any way so a 1.3 receiver would do you no good

I belive that your receiver can decode the PCM through 6 analog inputs. Why didn't Sony put analog outputs on the PS3, not having a PS2 I don't know for sure but I think they had some analog audio outputs on it?

They do have analog outputs. The standard rca jacks (yellow, red, white) come standard with the PS3. Or are you talking about the 5.1 rca audio? The PS2 didn't have 5.1 rca audio either.

Onkyo TX-SR805. Well worth the money and you don't need an engineering degree to use it like you do with the Denons.

To speed up the wife convincing process, put on the pants and say " look woman, I'm gonna buy this and I'm buying it now."

Are the Denons really hard to configure? I though it's a better brand than onkyo.
