I stopped by 3 local Best Buy stores this afternoon on my way home because I heard an rumor that they had 'Dances with Wolves' on Blu-Ray on their store shelves.
Well I couldn't find a single copy on BD at any of the 3 stores, however I did find it odd that all 3 stores did in fact have little "Fourth of July Promotion" signs on the shelf in the Blu-Ray section that clearly mentioned Dances with Wolves on Blu-Ray as part of their Blu-Ray 'promotion' they are running for this holiday event. No pricing was mentioned but there was an actual SCU number for it on the sign. However when I took the sign to the department manager on duty he said the SCU on the sign was indeed for Dances with Wolves on Blu-Ray, but that the computer indicated the title was currently not available, But then I guess I already knew that didn't I? So what gives Best buy? |

Yeah stuff like that happens to me all the time at best buy. I like their selection of blus, but its a pain when you have a question and the pimply teenager who doesnt know shit about shit is just confusing me more. Like on Monday for example I walk into best buy and im browsing the blu-rays and to my surprise Batman Begins is on the shelf. So I grab it and take it to the register and they are scanning it and its not going through and they are giving me funny looks. So then the girl at the register says hold on and comes back like 3 mintues later with the manager and they were like interrogating me as to where I got the movie. And I was like you have 2 dozen of them over there ********s. And they wouldnt sell it to me because it had to be tuesday to sell it and they made me come back the next day. bastards.

According to our own site Dances with Wolves hasn't been released on blu-ray yet, with no set date or news on a release date.

Batman Begins is supposed to be street dated so in other words they are not allowed to sell it until the given date or they would get in real trouble same thing with GTA4 we had it in the backroom but its street dated for the given date and the box should not be opened until that date. that worker at Best Buy probably must have just thought it was an old release and just put it out asap but on the delivery box it should say right on it DO NOT SELL UNTIL JULY 8TH, 2008. But however when i buy all of my anime at Best Buy and its out early they dont care because its just anime to them and its not street dated even though they broke the release date but since its not street dated i can buy my anime a week early if they have out a week early if i wanted to

That's my question. Dances With Wolves was announced early 2007/late 2006 and was "delayed" and never recieved a new date. Why would you drive around on a rumor that it just magically showed up? I don't even think the disc was manufactured. But I would like to see this little "Fourth of July Promotion" sign. That's pretty stupid they did that to say the least....

I was pretty certain that the 'rumor' was false (if it was out I'm sure it would have been mentioned here), however I have to drive past 3 of them to get home from work anyway (In Orange County CA.) and I'm easily amused by this sort of thing. Is that a problem?

A studio can stop supplying movies to a mom&pop shop because the studio isn't losing too much in sales, but the store would feel punished. I can't imagine Warner Bros. halting shipments of their films to Best Buy, because they'd just be hurting themselves. Seems like an empty threat to me. I'm not the OP, but in Syracuse, I also have 3 BB's that are less than 10 minutes from my house. When I was living in Chapel Hill, there were 2 within a similar distance (<10 min). |

i went to best buy yesterday to see if they had a copy of mario kart wii.(no they didn't) on the way out i stopped by the bluray section like always and i over heard a conversation that was going on with a guy browsing batman begins LE. he had it in his hand and asked the best buy associate:
"this movie, i heard something about a 2.0 and that i can't watch this movie if i don't have a 2.0 player or something i just wanted to know if you guys had 2.0 players" bestbuy associate "no we don't have any. there's no 2.0 players out yet" guy "what about the ps3. can i watch this movie on the ps3?" bba "no" me "the ps3 plays 2.0 movies! it got a firmware update that allows you to play 2.0. also watching the movie wouldn't be a problem on your player just the 2.0 extras wouldn't work." bba "oh yeah the ps3 just got an update it can play it." -walks away. guy "thanks" haha it was the stupidest thing i've ever seen. i wonder how many people are lied to like this everyday. |

The problem is that the advertisements you get usually run nationwide. If they are all sold before the ad comes out or before you get there, then there is not much they can do about it until the distributor ships more to them. But that is a big problem is that even with electronics, a nationwide ad may not always reflect what is in stock in that store, but does work for the majority of stores in the nation.

Best Buy used to be just that, the Best Buy...They've really gone down hill over the past few years.
Everytime I visit one of their stores, I feel like I'm gonna get ripped off if I buy something. I know one thing, they think their Blu-ray selection is lined w/Gold. They want a quarter-million for a single disk. I done w/them! ![]() |

Circuit city did the same thing to me a while back when 28 weeks later came out. a couple were on the shelf, even though I thought I remembered it was the following tuesday. this was like 6 days early, so tried to purchase it anyway, of course they couldnt so I *****ed about the idiot that put them out in the 1st place. anyhow, no sale! again at a sears, they put the hills have eyes2 out days early and the lady sold it to me, then I told her it was suppose to come out the following tuesday, but she didnt give a shit at least. she knew a employee f#$%ed up.

The thing that makes me mad about Best Buy isn't that their prices suck or crap like not letting you buy the BD when they have it on the shelf and then treating you bad for trying to buy it, its that 50% of the time when you try to price match (this has happened to me at more than 1 location), they try to argue some weasel excuse out of having to do it.
Amazon - online, we don't match. Wal-mart - well, im gonna have to call the local one about this, because if they are sold out (cause its a hot movie and there is a chance they might be) we won't price match cause technically you can't get it there. so i waited there for like 5 min. holding up the line, looking like a jerk making everybody wait, while he called wal-mart. walmart.com - its online, we can price match (now they can???), but we have to include the S&H cost in the original cost and then charge you tax on top of it all. bestbuy.com - same deal as wal-mart.com, yeha for their own website. and the ultimate one, where i just blu (lol, not funny i know) up. was Circuit City had a great price and the fricken manager told me that they did not price match on blu-ray discs. he got reported for that one and i got my price match. if i didn't get my way, i just walked out with my purchases at the register. My ultimate Best Buy moment is when i was doint some audio equipment research. I asked the Magnolia guy if I could hear a sample of loseless or uncompress audio from a blu-ray disc in their home theater (no tvs or BD players were on). He looked at me and said, I don't know what that is, we have Bose. Bose?!?!?!??! seriously, how do you get an overpriced speaker company and audio codecs confused and be allowed to work at anywhere outside k-mart electronics. |

try f.y.e. sometime. they're worse. the price for a blu-ray there can be upwards of $40.00. i can usually get the same blu-ray new and cheaper on amazon. i can also usually get the same blu-ray cheaper used in their same store. it's ridiculous. |
