WTF is going on!?

Hopefully I'm not the only one who's noticed this. We went to Target last night to pick up a couple things and, as we've been taught to do since we were kids, walk up to the door on the right hand side of the in/out. Only the door on the right is the out and the door on the right is the in. What the hell is this all about!? This is the fourth or fifth place this week that I've been to that is doing this. And the worst is when the door you walk up to, having been taught that the door on the right is in, doesn't open and you almost walk into it.

And yeah, there are signs on the door, but as I said, I was always taught in school that you walk on the right, you enter a door on the right, you do EVERYTHING, on the right hand side!!

It's only like that at one CVS location.

It's completely WRONG and no one escapes at least a slight amount of confusion.

There are big signs up on the doors and they are automated and won't open unless you are going the way they have been setup which is completely wrong.

I think it must be an experiment of some sort..... I don't often go there.

Things like that are done partially to slow down thieves, they'll smash into the door trying to flee. Gas stations at night may lock the door on the right going out, leaving the other one unlocked. It's kinda funny watching person after person after person trying to open the door to leave then get a very confused look on their face.

As for Bstecke's concerns, I agree. But it depends on where the checkout ailes are--to the left or right of the doors. You should never have to cross through incoming customers to leave a store. Apparently Bstecke's local Target is having trouble understanding the concept of ingress/egress.

The walmarts near my store have entrance on the left hand side on one side of the building and the right hand side on the other building. It's to do with flow control of customers. The inner doors are for people leaving because the check out lanes are in the middle of the building, and the outter doors are for peopel coming in so they can go out into the store without having to go through people coming in.

Pretty sure that's how the target tried to do it.

How old is that video? Any Target I have seen has those huge concrete balls lined up in front of the store. It would wreck a car to break through those things.

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A robbery at a Target store in Lake Charles early Monday morning is being described by police as "unbelievable."

It was around 1:30am when at least three suspects smashed a vehicle through the front door and took off with the store's ATM machine. Now, authorities are asking for your help in tracking down the suspects.

The surveillance video is dramatic. At least three men backed a vehicle into the front entrance of Target, searching for the ATM. It didn't take long for the robbers to get what they came for.

The entire smash and grab took no longer than two minutes.

So far, they've eluded capture. Detective Jeff Keenum with the Lake Charles Police Department says he has a hard time comprehending the brazen nature of the robbers. "I mean, it's unbelievable to me that someone would be so bold and brazen to do that. Target always has people there 24/7. The casino is right there. Buffalo Wild Wings is right there. So I'm certain that there is someone who saw something."

At last word, the damaged doors have been replaced but are not yet operational. Police were able to locate the vehicle used in the crime, as well as a second vehicle believed to be used as a lookout, at approximately 8:00 Monday morning.

The ATM was there, as well, but had been emptied of its contents. All items were found in the 400 block of College Street.

Remarkably, this robbery was committed right in front of a cleaning crew that was in the store at the time.

From the post date I would say several months old, the story is on the right hand side of the youtube page

The Target here which is several years old doesnt have any concrete pillars/balls in front of the doors like the newer Target's do

I've seen it a lot in stores where they want the outgoing traffic to be closer to the cash registers and the incoming traffic to be at the far wall. So if the doors are on the left side of the store when you're coming in, that will lead them to the setup you describe. That lets people exit more easily and also lets them get a clear view of people leaving so they can see if they're shoplifting.

At least it satisfied my curiosity about what exactly they meant by "in case of emergency, push doors open", as the two doors both swung out. I turned to push them back into place, then I thought that if they were going to have them set up like that I'd let them handle it.

Not true. You're supposed to walk on the left side of a street if there is no sidewalk. This lets you see the oncoming traffic instead of it approaching you from behind. I believe this is actually the law in most areas and you can in theory get ticketed for walking on the right side.

Nah, these were the doors that slide out from the center out in both directions. I hit them right in the middle, and they swung out like French doors.
