Default Glitches on Batman Gotham Knight?

Just started watching "Gotham Knight," and there's a serious glitch in the first few minute.
During the opening shot; small pink squares keep appearing in the top left corner of the screen. Wondering if this is just my disk, the whole first pressing, or all the disks?

Also, the Japanese soundtrack is completely inaccessible/missing.

I just watched this last night and experienced no display issues. I have not tried to watch the film in Japanese.

You apparently have to set the menu language for Blu-rays in your player's system menu to Japanese. Then the Japanese menu should come up and you'll be able to select the Japanese track via the remote.

So it is there, it's just hidden by a stupid authoring decision.

Just finished watching my copy. No display problems at all. Didn't try the japanese track though.

The Japanese audio isn't on the disc.

I didn't have any issues with the video. Does it do it every time?

It is according to someone on AVS who ripped it and looked at the files.

To select it, see my above post.

I just went through the disc. It's not on there, unless there's some super secret method of selecting it. But it's not in the languages.

Languages:

English
Deutsch
Castellano (Spanish)

Were you able to get to the Japanese version of the menu?

Oh wait, I think I misunderstood the selection method I read about. Try setting the menu language for Blu-rays in your player's system menu to Japanese. Then the Japanese menu should come up and you'll be able to select the Japanese track via the remote.

Thanks for the info about the Japanese track. That does indeed work

As for the glitch, looks like it's probably just my disk. I'll be taking a few screenshots of the problem, anyway, to include in my email to dvdpacific (where I bought the disk) so I'll probably post those here as well.

It is a problem that one might miss on a first viewing, but it's looking more and more like this is just my disc that's affected. (btw, tried playing it in two different software players. Exact same problem (same number of squares, even) appeared with both)

Wow, now THAT's a little . . . different. Good to know it works, though.

I didn't see the pink squares in the couple of minutes I watched.

Just a note, when on the Japanese version, you lose the Geman and Spanish subtitles. (For those who were thinking of watching in Japanese with German or Spanish subtitles)

After a little more reading, it looks like a lot of High Definition setups still have overscan so that could also be why only I am seeing the small pink squares (literally, at the very top of the screen, so the slightest overscan would cover them)
Add to that the various other flaws in this release (the second episode (strangely, JUST the second episode) has terrible posterisation. Thought that was just my setup, but highdefdigest noted it, too (on a related note; HD Digest is completely wrong about the fourth episode; that faux-grain is obviously deliberate and makes for a darn good looking story, my favourite on the disk)) and I'm leaning more to the possibility of a defective encode. (Partly because I just don't see how that kind of glitch could happen to just one disk. I've seen what happens to DVDs when they're scratched, etc. and even a minute scratch wouldn't cause a weird glitch like that.

Sounds like it might be an HDMI handshake glitch or something. Before you try exchanging it, see if the glitch appears when you set your player to 1080i or lower.

I have 0 overscan , so if you tell me an specific time stamp I can go look for the pink squares for certain? If you're sure they're there and part of the image in that extreme edge I might've missed them as they probably would have been on the edges of my field of view, away from my center of attention.. so timing location would be good to check if they're there on other discs.

If it was a one disc glitch could be on the actual data layer. Remember what happned to Brundlefly. Maybe a microscopic particle landed on it. Or Eddie Murphy.

There's always the posiblilty of one manufactured sample having an error.

You say the second episode has posterization? Would need to check again, I was having fun watching Bats speak in Japanese

The grainy episode has lots of cinematographic "defects" which makes it cool , you can even see some form of simulated lens chromatic aberration on the edges of objects the farther you go away from the center of the image

The defect begins at 21 seconds (just after the opening logos) and keeps appearing (each time, for only one frame) until about 41 seconds.

Nope. Not there. You mean the bridge under heavy fog intro, no?

I thought I saw some little squares flashing but they turned out to be car headlights twinkling.in the distance as they moved through the streets in the fog.

So no glitches on my side.
