Default Best Buy's Insignia Blu-ray Disc Player (NS-BRDVD)

Was looking at the flyer for sales starting on Friday in Canada and noticed that the Insignia Blu-ray Disc Player (NS-BRDVD) was going to be on sale for 299$CAN (from 349$CAN).

Not that I need a player as I got my PS3 but with a price tag under the 300$ some people could be compelled to get the Insigna brand, which, is usually very low end and poor quality. I looked at the specs on both BB's site and in the manual you can view by pdf online and it doesn't even say what compliance version it is. Wouldn't be surprised if its 1.1.

Thought I would bring this up if you have a friends saying they are getting a BR player this weekend, tell them to save a little more and get something much better.

I read somewhere that it has LG or Samsung parts, but not exactly sure.

I would stick with the PS3 as a Blu-ray player until the profile 2.0 standalones come out.

this player actually does have a good reputation for what its worth.

sure its not the best brand out there, but it gives people an alternative ticket to Blu-ray material, without the ps3.

i'll say it, some people DONT want to get into buying a ps3 for its blu-ray capabilities, and just want something to feed a disc in, and just hit the play button.

I own the 60g PS3 and this player. I purchased for bitstreaming capability. This player is great and the price that won't leave your pocket empty. No issues so far and running tons of movies thru it. PS3 does have better upscaler. I've read the parts inside are actually pretty decent. shame that every one jumps on the negative. So far so good! Will move this player upstairs to another tv within the year to try something else.

p.s. player is 1.1

This model is almost the same at the 299$ Magnavox that Walmart sells in Canada. It use the Panasonic Unicipher so Video/Audio and performance should be exactly the same as the BD30...

I've been considering getting the Panny DMP-BD30K but I might look into this one. The main reason I was looking at the Panny is I want to be able to bitstream audio. I also have a PS3 but I'd rather have my Onkyo 805 do the audio than the player.

Best Buy did have a 2-day only deal where they also provided a $100 BB gift card, in addition to the coupon book. That deal was offered only for on-line orders made on Sunday and Monday, June 29-30.

I bought a new 46" Samsung LCD on July 4th, and got the Insignia player for $199. That's a deal.

Actually, it's made by Funai, and uses the Panasonic chip for decoding.

Yep, look at all the other Funai/Magnavox/Sylvania threads for opinions. They're all the same Funai design, rebadged for different stores.

Posted this in the batman begins thread as well has anyone had issues playing the truehd track on that disc. I'm wondering if its the player or the disc. I've run alot of movies thru this machine and this is the only issue so far. I've been able to play truehd and dtsma on other discs with no problems.
