Default How does upconverting work for DVD's on PS3?

Questions for you helpful experts:

How do I know my PS3 is upconverting my standard DVD's to 1080p? Can it do that? Where are those settings?

Thanks all.

Well, assuming you are connected via HDMI, you can just check the input resolution on your TV. Should be 1080p if that is the maximum default resolution.

Oh is that all it takes? And what's the deal with the whole "upscaler" setting that you find under DVD options and "Audio/Video settings" while playing a DVD? What setting do I want: Full, Normal, Double, or Normal? I have a 1080p LCD as you can see below.

double will double the resolution while keeping it at 4;3 (if it was at 4:3) while Full stretched 4:3 to fit the screen, normal leaves it the way it was and other normal same thing

I like to keep it on "Normal" although last night i popped in "The Great Outdoors" and apparently my DVD was not Widescreen so it was the first time i actually put it to "full". I was impressed of how well it did..
