Default Another HDD help thread

Sorry, didn't know which section to put this in.

I've swapped my 40gb HDD with a 320gb in my PS3 that works fine, then I put the 40gb into an enclosure.

I reformatted to FAT32 using my MacBook pro and the Mac sees it fine, but my PS3 doesn't. Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Yeah, I put the 40gb hard drive in the enclosure, made sure it was all screwed in properly I reformatted it using my MacBook pro to FAT32, I put an avi file onto it disconntected from the mac plug it into the PS3' USB port. The lights on the enclosure are on but I'm not getting anything on the PS3.

What kind of 2.5 enclosure did you get? You're not seeing the HDD coming up at all on the PS3 XMB? Is the HDD dependent on the USB2.0 cord to supply the power from the PS3 or does it have its own power supply?

I got an enclosure for my old 60GB when I switched to a 250GB, and it had a USB2.0 connector with two male jacks to connect to a PC/other device and my PS3 never even saw the drive once I plugged it into the PS3 after I formatted the drive FAT32. I just shelved the 60GB and said forget it, since I stream all my music and movies remotely through my PC network. If the PS3 is not seeing the drive at all, and the external is not running off its own power supply then your prob most likely is the HDD is not getting enough power to spin up and be recognized by the PS3.

Some enclosures require TWO USB connections for power and data. Read your enclosure's manual.

AVI encoded with Motion JPEG or DIVX work.

Hey it worked!! I hook up the drive to the mac via a dc/usb cable and hook it to the ps3 with another usb cable and the ps3 could see it, brilliant I guess it needed a bit more power.

Thanks very much for your help folks.
