Backing up HDD straight to a new HDD? - Blu-ray Forum

I've got a 120gb HDD with PSN games, demos, movies, themes etc.

Can I plug in a blank 2.5" external HDD (via USB) and back up the entire HDD to that new HDD? Would there be any issues with demos or PSN games not working on the new HDD?

Also, would all the PSN games and demos work in another console with a different PSN account? If so, it'll be MUCH easier to sell (got about 80 demos).
I'm guessing the PSN games wouldn't work on another account, but the demos should right?

Yes. But you'd need to use the PS3 Backup Utility if you want to keep Protected Save files on some games.

Not as long as it's installed to the same machine they're copied from. Downloads from PSN (and Protected save files) are locked to the machine they are made on.

No. (and why would anyone pay for demos which are free?)

Yea I was planning on using the backup utility. I can't save some saves individually (like Demon's Souls).

So only demos work and not PSN games?

I'm not "pirating" anything, they're free. In New Zealand we only get around 20gb a month, so 80 demos at once is a lot.

you can sell the PS3 with the account active if it's someone you know, you give them the login info, and don't screw them over... lol...

i'm not sure if you can transfer things over to a new PS3 with the utility... I know you can do it to a new HDD, as I did it on my 500gb hard drive from my external.

But it was in the same machine... so I'm not sure if it's the machine or the account that matters.
