Default Dissappointed owner of KDL52" XBR4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello to everyone..
I was just searching the web for some input and happened upon this site.
Well first I would like to say i'm a big fan of samsung and I have both a 50" plasma,46" lcd ( samsung ) My sister purchased a 52" xbr2 a year or so ago
and I have to admit it is a very nice tv. While I was shopping at bestbuy a week ago I saw a 52" xbr4 for sale (display unit) 1,799. After speaking with the manager I found out someone mismarked the price,he honered it anyway
I took it home fired it up motion blur is so bad that it pains me to watch it.
I checked that the motion enhancer was turned on ( set to high ) still very bad. Blu-ray is bad, sattlite is bad,OTA is pretty good.
I even went as far as bring a couple of my blu-ray movies to watch on my sisters xbr2 much better.I have 30 days to return to bestbuy but I would hate to lose out on such a great deal.sony is coming out to look it over in a week
Any ideas or input woul be appreaciated.
Thanks

i believe motion enhancer is 120hz, which yes looks very bad on that sony. i worked at sears this year and people would only buy samsung 120hz after i demo'ed.

turn off anything that had to do with 120hz or motion enhancing. just run with 60hz, it looks alot better on that tv

i have a xbr4, on blu i run it at no motion enhancer, cinima auto 1 and it looks spectacular. you might have a bad set or player. the xbr is the flagship of lcds and unless your samsung is a 81 series or a newer 650 or higher it will not even compare to the xbr.

SONY, i believe is the most over rated most expensive LCD out there. Why would any one spend nearly $4000+ on an XBR anything when you can buy a Samsung 650 or 750 series for a little more than 1/2 that price. Does not make much sence to me.

Must be something wrong with your tv or player as I have this tv and have no problems with it. I watch a lot of sports and have no motion blur what so ever.

Good post, kozumasbullitt. Samsung was 3rd place behind Sony and Sharp for me when shopping for a TV. That was when my set cost me $3000...
Even my wife who isn't as in to this stuff as me could see a noticeable difference even on our non-XBR set, much less the XBR.

I talked with the sony tech. He said he has seen this problem before,he is ordering a new panel ( lcd screen ) and a video p.c.b to install in my TV.
I asked if they would rather come out and take a look first, nope just coming to replace.
What do you make of that???

It costs a lot to send a tech out for a problem that doesn't sound easily fixable. Since there's a good chance they'd have to do the replacement anyway they'll just do that and save the effort.

I look at that scenario and say, "DAMN! Now that's some kick ass customer service right there!" They are going to give you some major brand new parts without even checking to see if the problem is a result of user neglect, which would void your warranty and force you to pay for the work needed.

I certainly hope that you don't view this scenario in any negative fashion?!?!?

No not at all,It tells me that there farmiliar with this problem.
But I do have a question for anyone who would like to chime in.
I purchased the tv 2 weeks ago as stated above, best buy gave me 30 days to purchase a extended warranty.
If I go to best buy this weekend and purchase the warranty which I think they told me would be around 250.00,I could wait a week or 2 than call bestbuy service department they send someone out and I think not only replace parts replace the tv. I'm not trying to be greedy but i'm not sure I want A yv that needs najor work.
What do you guys think?

its a display unit right? do you even know how long its been in use at best buy before it was bought? xr4 isnt exactly the most recent model... it is older model compared to the xr5.

display floor units are left on day after day from opening to closing...

your complaining that it may have a problem with the screen? dude you bought a floor unit and your getting it serviced free of charge. if your not happy with that then return the damn set and get a samsung.

Okay...I'll throw it out there....You need to calibrate that set.

I'd personally stay away from any floor units when it comes to LCDs and especially plasmas.

Was not in any way bashing his thread. Just showing my dissatisfaction towards Sony LCD TV. I have had many good SOny products. I am just not a fan of the TV thats all. Everyone has their own opinions and they all get used on this site. You are right you can not find a 650 or 750 for that much, but I was referring to retail pricing. Those floor model TV's are left on in the store continously. I would have hesitated in buying any floor model products. Again, we all have our different opinions about products.
