Default Batman Begins Limited Edition Gift Set: But is it ??

It was upon reading the review on these pages that the question above came to mind. To be more accurate I would like to further discuss the "Limited Edition" tag.

What constitutes a limited edition these days?
To me as someone who has spent a lot of money on music CD's over the years I have become very used to the term limited edition. I have plenty of discs which purport to be limited, but are in actuality just a marketing gimmick as I can still purchase them years on. On the contrary, I have also purchased CD's which are truly limited, being an edition of 500, 1000 or 1500 worldwide (and have never been released in the same format again).

With DVD and Blu-ray you hardly ever see figures for the limitation (except Helvetica - which I recently purchased on Blu). So what do you guy and girls think about the true limitation of Blu's like Batman Begins?

Do you think that it is not so limited at all?
Is it really so limited, and what is the world wide distribution - 10,000; 20,000; 50,000; 100,000 or even 1,000,000 units? It would be very interesting if anyone had true figures.

Do you think that there is any future value in these sets?
For some, they may think that these sets could provide a future auction site profit, is this a factor for anyone? But future value is also dependent in part on scarcity and if there are many, many copies out there, value is curtailed.

So, just one admission to end, I am a bit of a sucker for limited editions (but I am starting to question their value). I'm hoping that the above will kick of some healthy debate on the subject, in turn may provide me with a new angle or insight into the whole limited edition quandary.

Its basically a studios way to keep generating income over and over again on the same movie. They rely on people like you to keep buying it. One that cracks me up is the number of anniversary editions of Jaws there are. I read an article on this, let me see if I can find it

On DVD, the Limited edition of Saving Private Ryan must have been the most un-limited limited edition ever! It was on sale and readily available for years and years!

I think in the case of Batman Begins it *is* limited to some extent, because if the title is repressed, they'll just to a normal release. Of course we don't know how many LE sets were manufacturered in the first place.

Limited edition only means that they have released a set amount and when that amount is gone it will not be made anymore.
It can mean 100, 1000, or 1,000,000,000,000.
Anyone honestly thinking that there will be come collector's value to things released as "limited" or "collector's edition" are fools.
It is marketing hype to charge more and that is all.
The only "rare" dvds and whatnot are the ones who lose licensing and go out of print.
(Fright Night 2, The Guardian *horror, not the crappy kevin costner and punkd loser movie* and numerous others fall into that category)
