Default PS3 Placement?

Im sure this has been asked around, but oh well. Is there any truth to the rumor that standing the PS3 up vertically will keep it more kooler? I have mine laying flat on top of my HD-DVD player. Now is stacking things on top of each other bad?

Put it in a place where it will have cool air cycling around it. Mine is on a dresser where the ceiling fan blows over it.

Took a couple minutes of searching for a reliable source but its true, it cools better on its side.

You really dont need a fan. Just as long as you have cool air cycling around. A/C's work to.

if you want to feel safe you could always just buy a ps3 cooler but of course unless you live in a cold area with not much dust going around then it wouldnt do much good but as mentioned before you need to keep it in an area where air can circulate avoid carpets and tight cabinets

You're fairly safe, it's not like it's an Xbox 3fixme.

I heard it was this one causing all the PS3 deaths. There was a huge thread about it on the PS3 forum.

Don't know about cooler, but a bestbuy guy(gamer)told me to lay it flat because the ones he'd seen returned brought /back,scratched disc, he was told by customers they kept them in upright position he quietly told me dont buy the extra warranty, just keep it flat.Had mine about 9months no problems

While horizontal is cooler, it's only that way because the fan works harder. I think that is actually from the same report with the thermal imaging. Frankly I would be ok with my PS3 being a little warmer if the fan was going less often. The only reason it would be warmer is because the internal temp wouldn't have surpassed a level that causes the fan to kick into high.

Maybe thats why lol. ever since I heard about inter-coolers causing ps3 deaths I steered away from it. Like I said in my first post. Just have a fan cycling around it and keep your room under 80F and you should be fine

it's all about location, location, location! As many other have stated here, make sure your ps3 is well ventilated, and is in a place where air can flow around the unit freely.

I have mine flat never had any problems. I also used to have a launch xbox 360 and always had that flat and never had rrod, i sold it to my bro in law and that is still going strong. Do not use the cooling fans, the internal cooling system is more than good enough for the ps3, just make sure it can breathe and you will be fine!
