Default how do you properly calibrate your television

I have a 61" samsung led/dlp television. I have choosen the dynamic setting for the television picture. I am sure that there is a better way to get the best picture out of the television, however, I have no idea how to go about doing it. Is there a blueray you can buy to help calibrate the television?

Should I just leave it on the factory setting that looks the best or should I invest the effort into doing it myself?

What are teh pros and cons?

Thank you

But aside from this, it is helpful to know that if you have a "Movie" or "Cinema" preset, that is usually the most accurate preset. Never use "Vivid" unless you just want unrealistic color saturation and "pop" in which case you aren't really looking to calibrate per se.

Those presets are a good starting point, but ideally you'll want to tweak it so it looks best in your environment to your eyes. I'd recommend checking the HDTV forum here to see if your particular model is discussed, or to search avsforum for your particular model. Other options are Digital Video Essentials which can help you properly calibrate your set yourself, or to get it professionally calibrated (which obviously will cost more).

Too add another option, as a potentially cheap/free solution for the time being, if you have a Pixar DVD sitting around, you can pop that in and use their calibration tools that are somewhere in the bonus features.

I tried searching through the Cars BD, but didn't see it, so I'm not sure if they included these in the BD releases, as they did with most of the DVD releases.

I believe all SONY Blu-rays have something like this too (though I never used it myself). Just punch in "SONY" (with the numbers like on a telephone) at the main menu.

Or any THX certified DVD. They always come with a free calibration program.

Is it true that they are not on the Pixar BDs? Is the feature on any current BDs, regardless of studio, that you know of?

As others have mentioned, Dynamic is a poor choice for viewing anywhere other than the sales floor (imo). I have the Sammy 56" LED/DLP and recommend you at least start with the Movie mode.

Although the mods will probably move this, my settings in Movie mode after calibrating with DVE's HD BD on my PS3 (HDMI) are:

Contrast: 71
Brightness: 42
Sharpness: 15
Color: 44
Tint: G48/R552
Color Tone: Normal

Also, I've turned Digital NR to 'Off'.

This works for my setup...hope this helps with your Sammy settings.

It's not on Cars, but it is on the Ratatouille BD.
