Default Anyone feel better about Sony and PS3 now?

I had to hear about E3 by reading news on my PDA, and on tuesday (?) I was not happy at all with the Sony/360 situation...

Yesterday I got super excited watching the press conference, and hearing that the movie content was there (in some form of HD) regardless of if I ever use it, watching some PS3 exclusive game trailers and watching some cross platform trailers...

I am not sure if I feel better, but I feel as good as I did when 2.40/41 came out... Maybe better... Still excited, chomping at the bit to start snatching up more games and blu's....

now that i've vented and calmed down, i dont feel half as bad. I just thought to myself "hey, it wont be the first time if you dont play FF13." I still haven't played FF11 or FF12. so im good now. and the store having new videos helped a lot.

Sony still has the best line up for 2008/2009 of any major gaming platform, so gaming wise i am ok, it is just the internet message boards that are really a PITA with all the microsoft fanboys yelling/screaming about how they have FF13 even tho 95% of them will never even play it because they are too busy playing Halo or Gears online.

Yep. The press conferences don't compare. Microsoft's only two items of note were RE5 footage (which is on both platforms), and the FFXIII announcement, of which PS3 still has, too. PSN is being upgraded (the coup de gras will be HOME), with support from the studios themselves, if I understand correctly, and what can only be considered a "slew" of new games. M$ has Gears 2, which, I predict Resistance 2 will dominate, otherwise Killzone 2 will (correct me if I'm wrong on this one).
Bottom line, Sony won hands down, but M$ stole a lot of thunder with it's "surprise".

The FFXIII sure woke up a lot of trolls ... most of them pretending to be sad and sell their PS3 or else ...
We have a good line up of things (games, movies) they can't dream of ; I think Xbots are more sad not to have MAG than a slow rythm RPG with cute animals and strategic gameplay.

4 things I'm still concerned over....

1.) I'm still very concerned over Sony's lack of JRPG's. This is a genre that was an absolute staple for the PS1 and PS2. Yes I know help is on the way. I know FF13, vs 13, Valkery, Eternal Sonata, White Knight Story, etc are coming. Still, I cannot help but think it's taking much longer to get these titles out the door this generation than past generations.

2.) PSN still has a long long way to go. 2.41 and the new video store are definitely steps in the right direction. However Sony needs to get on the ball with their downloadable content. Compared to Live Arcade, it's a joke. Plus, Sony needs to get in-game voice chat and ensure that all future games support every feature like trophies, custom soundtracks, etc.

3.) 3rd party love. I'm sick of seeing all the timed exclusives, exclusive dlc, and features come to the 360 and not the PS3. I want to see more equal treatment across the board of multi platform titles.

4.) More diversity in games. We've already had plenty "big guns/big pecks/big tits" gaming. LBP is a great start but I want to see more titles that do not involve carrying a weapon.

did you just mix Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyessy into 1 name? and Japan has 3 more rpgs available that you havent mentioned that are not in america. so its not really Sony themselves its the SCEA they should convince the companies of those 3 rpgs into having them come to america just to quiet us jrpg fans for a little while

LOL!! Yes I did. I fixed it.

I was speaking primarily of JRPG's for the US and Europe. I KNOW Japan will be taken care of. What about the rest of the world?

Home where art thou?

I would have rather liked Homes release than the video service

it shows that Microsoft knows that Sony has the better lineup.

A desperate move of getting a JRPG multi-plat for the West, just shows they got nothing big up their sleave, while i believe Sony does.

Yeah i feel fine, but i'd be feeling a lot better if i was beta testing HOME right now, or even if i had a decent selection of trophy compatible games to play. i just don't like waiting for things.

Patience. We still have Leipzig and TGS coming to see what Sony has or may have up its sleeve.

Have we as a generation gotten SO spoiled by the instant gratification world we live in that we expect everything to be done overnight? Yes, the 2.41 update was a step in the right direction, and yes Sony definitely needs to up the PSN content but comparing PSN to XBox Live is unfair considering XBox Live was up with the original XBox and Microsoft has had a distinct advantage in the online arena thanks to their experience on the PC Windows/gaming side of things. Sony has literally had to build their network from the ground up with no previous advantages like Microsoft has had. And don't forget, PSN is FREE. Sony is running this whole thing at their expense, not ours.

Kinda difficult to do when Microsoft is apparently on a rampage to grab everything in sight and pay up the wazoo to get them exclusive rights in some fashion. Loyalties and allegiences from 3rd companies nowadays is getting to be more and more of a thing of the past thanks to the cost of producing games. Nintendo apparently isn't hurting massively from a tepid 3rd-party base. Whether it will work for them in the long run will be something to watch for sure.

Sadly, those are the games that sell. People are more willing to buy <insert whatever game here with a number after it> than your Okami's or Rez's or Pixeljunk Monsters. If you want more diverse games, look to the PSN Store. The $5-10 games are diverse, even if they don't pack the "big punch" that their $60 brethren do.

The timed exclusives, exclusive content, and exclusive downloadable content for games ONLY on xbox 360 is starting to get f*cking old. This kind of stuff is bullsh*t as are all the ports the PS3 gets.

Would you rather have exclusive content and timed exclusives or lots of exclusive games that are not timed? One represents MS and the other represents Sony.

Don't expect Home to be a Coup de Grace anymore than X-Box's Avatars to destroy Nintendo's Miis.

I agree with your insinuation; however, I am totally sick and tired of seeing DLC 'only on Xbox 360' and multiplat port issues as well. I'm all for exclusive (permanent) content, but these are things are MAJOR for me as it directly affects the overall value of the games I purchase.

My recent discovery of Fallout 3 DLC only being available on 360 (and PC by definition, of course) has pretty much completely crushed me. It's not the first time and certainly won't be the last. I don't recall any multiplat releasing DLC only on PS3 (bioshock in future maybe? But a 'new' title would be far more appealing since anyone who cared has pretty much already gotten Bioshock on another platform now, myself included).

The crappier port being on PS3 nearly everytime doesn't help the situation either.

My point is, exclusives, albeit a large part, are still only a part of a much bigger equation here. That being; is Sony willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that I, their PS3 customer, gets the most for the console. The answer, at this time anyway, is a resounding NO.
