I watched it tonight. Seemed the same quality as when I watched it on-demand thru comcast a few months ago. This certainly wasn't bad, but the blu-ray will obviously be better. I noticed that, especially in the fast action scenes, that there was some pixilization and blocks on the screen. I mean, even with HBO's minimum bit-rate, it still is compressed enough to get those artifacts. Hopefully the blu-ray, with its high bit-rate, will have better picture, for those action packed sequences, AND the lossless sound.

My Transformers on cable had compression artifacts like mad. How did yours look on DirectTV?

Don't get me wrong, mine looked fine in nonaction scenes. In the action scenes, you could definitely see artifacts. Maybe I need to switch providers....

I recorded it onto my HD DVR because I was watching Vantage Point from Blockbuster, which I have to return soon.

There were slight instances of compression aritfacts, but not bad. It looked really good on DIRECTV, manga.

Also, I think I got the wife talked into the panny plasma. We'll see once we get moved into the new house.
