Default I feel bad for the "Average Joe" when it comes to HD!

So my GF calls me and said her friend picked up a BR player. I was shocked and happy.

Then she tells me they can not see any difference when it comes to playing BR. Looks the same as DVD

So I ask what did they try and my GF stated POTC3 which is eye candy so then my next question was how do they have it hooked up.

My GF said the have it hooked up with the cables that came with it.

And I ask are they the Red/White/Yellow and she said yes...

I wanted to cry so I gave them an extra HDMI cable and bam big difference.

My question is why do manufactures include ****ing composite cables for a HD player

Makes ZERO Sense and the Average Joe will have no clue.

Do you think Manufactures of BR players should include HDMI/component cables?

Yeah, both of my brothers had their PS3's hooked up wrong. Scary thing is, they both thought it looked great. Granted, they were looking at a gorgeous new game, not a movie, so it would look a littl ebetter. But when I told them, 'it can look better than this', and changed the settings, they were floored!

I think, since many people will have T.V.s that aren't HDMI capable, they include RCA, but we know that HDMI can be made cheaply (look at Monoprice) but if they gave an HDMI, they'd still have to throw in RCAs for those who need them, etc....

I wish we could easily, in mass-market, buy LCD/Plasma WITHOUT a t.v. tuner, NO speakers, without a remote control, and WITHOUT any cables included...... they could drop the price down significantly, and for the majority of people like us, that's all we need!!!!

Glad I went with a projector

I think as BD players go mainstream HDMI cables should be included, we are going into the mainstream phase right now.

Unfortunitely, you'll get people complaining that they should include composite cables along with HDMI cables. But, I do agree that BR players should include a HDMI cable ...

My parents got an HD box from comcast cable for their new LCD. When I went over there a few days later I saw that the cable guy hooked it up using a composite video cable.

Makes me wonder how many people are set up like this.

I guess it doenst make sense to me. If you are buying a HD machine companies should include HD cables.

They Should NOT include composite cables. You get no benefit from a HD machine from composite.

I can only imagine how many people in this world have the HDTV's hooked up to composite cables for HD Cable boxes, upconvert players etc and wonder why they see no difference.

It's cheaper for the manufacturers to include RCA cables. And when the customer goes back to the store for the HDMI they now know they need, the salesman is thrilled to sell him a "top of the line" $100 Monster HDMI cable.

do I think they should yes, will they no, why? Best Buy, Walmart, Sears, Circuit City, Fry's and so on.
There is no way any retailer wants a HDMI cable in the box. You are looking at 55%-95% profit on a $70+ cable, that is an very ease add-on sale. This is retail 101 profit is in the add-ons.

Perhaps, they should include no cable in the box and put a sticker on the outputs (that is easily removable without leaving some glue one) to tell the customer the connections for HD video (HDMI, DVI, component) and HD audio (HDMI or 5.1/6.1/7.1 analog outs).

Then retail outlets should give considerable discounts on cables when purchasing a component.

And I can't believe "cable guys" hook HD boxes with composite cables... What is the point of having someone install it if they can't even install properly. They could even set partnerships to push HDMI by give information to the customer.

Along the same lines, went into a house the other day with an HDTV and no HD source. I wonder how many people are running this current set up thinking they have HD?

Most 'averge joes' have the internet and should do a 'little' research before buying something that they have no clue about.

They probably don't care that much, they are told they have HD and that's good enough for them. Most don't even have Full 1080p HD Tv's remember that.
The guy in the store sold them a 720p TV and said it was HD and that is good enough info for J6P

My parents have a 720p TV because they only have DirecTV HD and an upconverter so no need to spend extra dough but everything is connected via HDMI. I taught my mom early on what to look for in an HDTV. She almost bought a 32" 1080p TV but I told her it would be more cost effective to get the 720p which was a lot cheaper since the difference in pq would be minimal. I like it when my mom looks through sales ads and points out how crappy and overpriced TV's are pointing out flaws in design. I think she gets HD now. My dad on the other hand hates his new TV because it's too complicated for him. He only really watches the news and the farming channel so...

edit: DirecTV came with an HDMI cable. And I can see why PS3 doesn't come with one but, why wouldn't an upconverter? it should at least come with component cables.

+1 For saving me the trouble of saying it. Throw in an S-video cable for crying out loud. If your consumer ends up using it at least your player quality looks that much better for having included it. Component would be better as some people, like me, have HD Component inputs.

I had an HD TV for 2 years without an HD OTA antenna, or HD cable/satellite, or Blu Ray, or HD DVD, or anything
