I'm generally surprised by the original post.

Most grain-haters are, almost by definition, mouth-breathing dullards who'll pay $30+ for an upscaled VHS as long as it's got plenty of DNR and at least 2 lossless audio tracks.
Why is he even interested in Criterion DVDs? Did somebody tell him "Last Emperor" was an action movie?
Perhaps he thinks it's a new Jackie Chan film? (Not a sleight on Jackie Chan. But his films do have a much broader appeal; able to be enjoyed by both intellectuals & idiots alike)
