There are 75+ titles coming out in the month of may. Many are big blockbuster releases or some classics .... Transformers, Kill Bill, Day/Nightwatch etc.

Most people talk about going broke in a joking way.

The truth is, September has so many titles that people have been waiting for. I plan on Prioritizing, but it will be a direct hit to the wallet:

Transformers

Iron Man

Kill Bill 1 & 2

The Godfather Collection

Knocked Up!

The 40 year old Virgin

John Carpenters "The Thing"

Any way you add this up, I'm looking at $250 Plus

there is over 35 titles that I want. Godfather is a no brainer and so is iron man. The rest I'll have to pick and choose. The ultimate comedy and horror packs from Uni will be bought to.

Each years it have been the same since Media existed... here how it works

Jan-April : Pretty Much nothing
May-July : A little peak
August : Starting to Pick up
September-October : More and More
November-December : Highest Peak

This apply to Games, Media and theater, except that Theater have a nice boost in May-July due to Blockbusters of the Summer

I certianly won't be broke. Transformers and Iron Man... That'll do me just fine.

Especially Transformers, Not just because I've been waiting for the Blu-ray for a long time, But also because it'll finally bring to an end the endless "When's Transformers coming to Blu-ray" threads that have plagued this forum for so long

September is when the movie studios start releasing the "really" crappy movies (go pull up September 2007 and see what I mean). More people turn to home video during that time and ignore the megaplexes.

Less competition at the theaters = more sales and rentals for Blu-Ray.

July is actually pretty expensive for me. I bought 6 on July 7 and have 10 more coming on July 29. I have 7 set for shipping on Aug 26, and so far only 10 on pre-order for September and 5 for October.

I really hate it when people do this, but +1!!!!! Saved me from typing it out. As you pointed out, Cinema's schedule is quite a bit different (explained a bit more below).

Well, people don't really start spending money till November (in recent years), but you need to spread out the releases a bit so Sept. - Dec. are always the peak period.

More importantly this year, there's a lot of replication capacity coming online shortly, so the studios can start putting out more releases. (This has been an ongoing issue for awhile now, but should be resolved going forward.) Q3 is already over 200 announced and dated titles and Q4 will be considerably larger than that once the "official" announcements are made.

By "really" crappy do you mean the potential Oscar-winners? Late Jan. - April is when they dump the crap. May - Aug is when they release everything that requires more testosterone than brain cells to enjoy -- though New Line and Universal seem to have figured out that women still go to movies too during the summer. And of course Disney/Pixar know the kids are out of school. Sept - October is a bit of a transition, as they move from summer blockbusters to the critical "darlings," with a brief stop for horror-fest just before Halloween. A lot of cool independent films come out in limited release in this period, though. Nov - Dec is true Oscar season (apparently no voting members of the Academy can remember a movie for more than 2 months after they see it), plus a couple of blockbusters to be released for the holidays.

I have been trying to buy 3-4 weeks after release, because there have been significant price drops........ September being my Wife's Bday, and our Anniversary, makes it an expensive month as it is

It's not just Academy voters. I hate to do this, but look at how many people are calling The Dark Knight the greatest movie of all time, right now. Give them some time to settle down, and reality will set back in. Good ol' recency effect.

For all my entertainment purchases in September it'll be like this

Kill Bill
Iron Man
Spore
StarWars: Force Unleashed

but I might hold out and buy Kill Bill in a couple months when the price drops.

No, I'm not talking about the fall. September, as a standalone month which what was in question, is a notoriously crappy movie month. It's all the stuff not good enough for summer and too crappy for Oscar time. No need to be condescending.
